the military is not such a good place to be during times of war

you may be ok with the idea of killing or being killed, but the reality may be different

very high rates of suicide, ptsd, other disabilities among former combat troops. Maybe go to the VFW or VA hospital and talk to some vets first before you decide

Joining the military doesn't always mean you will be on the front lines. There are trades that won't go off the home land as well. You can pick what you want as long as your aptitude tests allow the trade. Here in Canada anyway. My test results allowed me any tech option so it was endless unless the trade I wanted was full at the time which some were but I didn't want to wait for an opening so I picked from what trades had positions at the time.

Don't run away man it'll only exasperate your problems in the long run. We can't choose our parents, just gotta roll with what you got for now until you have a firm plan in place. I've been through some major family stuff this year too, lost my father, lost a good job, etc. I want to start a new life but planning is the name of the game.

i thought of this very same thing a number of times when i was young. i never did it. and from the age of 30 now, i know i made a right choice for me. there is plenty of time for you to get that independent, forcing it on yourself when you don't even have means to feed yourself and keep a roof over your head is rarely the right thing to do.

you don't see it right now but this isn't a way to gain independence for yourself. if you do it now, you might actually become more dependent on what/who will be providing you with money/food/shelter than whatever it is you're dependent on right now. you don't gain a true independence in life until you control your whole hand, when you've gained enough resources and connections to have the luxury to quit something without suffering extreme consequences (like going hungry). when you reach that point in your life, then you can run away if you want to. but you're not there.

    don't be stupid, kid.

I agree. I left home at 16 & there are a lot of dangerous people in the real world. Being a crazy farm boy. strong as an ox, kept many a loon from fucking with me.
You on the other hand would fall prey to this element. Graduate from HS, find a job & save every nickel you can. Then make your move.
