I mean... I guess? I guess my point was that if lobsters and crabs were technically insects then they're absolutely meat. Anyway, now I want lobster for breakfast

I know horseshoe crabs share more genes with a scorpion than other crabs

But they are trilobites, not really crabs

I like your views, in theory. I don't think they could play out in practice. My starry-eyed self would love to see a world without humans consuming animals, but I think having a plant-based diet requires you to agree with a few assumptions that it will be difficult to get everyone to agree on, unfortunately.

But any little bit helps :)

I tried the vegetarian diet once about 7 years ago. It wasn’t for me. It made me feel light headed, and the veggie burgers gave me gas.

I openly dare any vegetabletarian to try and take a steak, which I bought and paid for, off my grill.

Ahh, the ever-stupid and vain "meat vs vegan" argument again. While some are whining about the killing and eating of living animals, it should be remembered that plants are also living. They just can't run away from you when you kill and eat them.

I really don't care to eat beef, or most store-bought meats these days, as there's no way to tell what crap they've been fed or injected with, and THOSE are the things that make most meat "unhealthy" in my opinion. It's even harder to know what was sprayed all over the fields where such meat was raised or fed from. That said, if sierra or other vegans come over for dinner there will be fruit and veggies. That doesn't mean I won't have bacon or hamburger for myself, though. I won't think more or less of someone who eats meat or not.

From a biblical standpoint, we were created to eat a plant-based diet. After the fall that all changed. In the new testament we were told by the apostles that all things, meat included, were to be received with thanksgiving. I firmly believe eating meat won't prevent you from getting to Heaven. You might get there much faster, but you won't be banned from there because of it. Even Jesus ate meat....fish, for certain, and likely other clean meats since He was Jewish by birth.

Also, why are nearly all of sierra's comments edited out?

Disagreed completely. Iron, zinc, B-12 vitamin and amino acids are just some of the essential nutrients, where meat is the best, or even the only natural source for them. Many vegan eaters suffer from B-12 deficiency in particular, because B-12 is ridiculously difficult to replace with anything from non-meat sources, and our bodies can't produce it naturally. Also, meat protein consumption is needed to maintain muscle mass, and I for one love my muscles. Veggie alternatives just don't compare.

Also, while I no longer have the link to this, I once read a study, where it stated that our current level of intellect is thanks to out ancestors consuming meat. Adequate intake of nutrients from meat sources helped to stimulate brain growth and development. Our current societies might literally not exist, had it not been for meat consumption by past humans, that took our evolution to our current direction.

And also, consider this: We are genetically around 99,6% identical with the African Chimpanzee, the Pan Troglodytes. Our closest relative in the animal kingdom with a biology very similar to ours. The African chimps have been frequently observed to hunt, kill and eat other animals in their habitat. No one has told them that it's bad. They just instinctively know that it's what they have to do and eat to survive.

The meat industry was once started for a reason: Past generations as recently as during the 19th century frequently suffered from severe famines, when crops failed. It was the humble cow, and the pig, that finally saved us from that horror. These animals are able to consume plant material for food that humans cannot. Grass for cow fodder grows in places, where nothing else thrives. Slaughtering and eating them then helps us to survive to another day. Wanna talk about the ethics of meat consumption, and whether or not it's morally right to kill that cute little baby lamb for food? Then always remember, that it was the meat industry that finally ended famine, and the associated mass deaths here in the western world. Something to consider. There are many places on this planet, where the hostile environment simply does not support the industrial scale production of plants and fruit. Anything from plant diseases to unexpectedly poor weather could, and would disrupt food production for a solely vegan food based society, with possible catastrophic consequences.

    Food for thought.

but wait, we're all meat, even if we're cats, sooo, if we move our spirits into mechanical brains, we're still going to need some sort of resources extraction.
i guess when we build our new hosts/shells we will have to have energy storage and collection built in. like i guess maybe solar panels and batteries.
i'm pretty sure well need some sort of physical mobility, either that or be able to control mobile drones remotely, to do assmebly and repairs.

a completely mechanical ecosystem might be possible, but that would mean starting all the way from the bottom up.
other then a completely non-organic complete ecology, i don't quite understand how you're going to eliminate all consuming of flesh by flesh.
i suppose you could have just grazers and scavangers. as omniverous sapients we may have some leeway, but many of our fellow species, including the cute fuzzy ones, don't have the choice of not consuming at least some animal protien. of course animal protien could come from cloned cells or some equivelant.

Just a thought - how many Stone age Vegetarians were there? - my guess is none that managed to climb the human evolutionary ladder

The blank posts were not as a result of mod actions. A post disappears altogether if deleted by a mod. All I can suggest is she would have edited out her posts. Maybe the thread made her re-evaluate her ideas on the subject. That is what happens in life. We all re-evaluate our opinions and values as we go through life.

I think she just knew she wasn't getting anywhere with this crowd and didn't want to get in fights over it.... Her ideas on the subject are probably the same as they had been, which is fine.... to each their own.

locusts are kind of a prable in real life, because after thier orgy of consuming everything, there's nothing left for them and they die back for another decade or so until their population explodes and they strip everything again. same thing in predator prey relationships. a predator that kills too many of its prey too quickly, starves. and humans, our explanding populations and voratious consumption, we're just like the locusts. only we make it take longer. and we hide behind furnishings, which is all fine, the creative part, but not the procrative part. and it isn't the fun that's the problem. and while some things can expand to fill our demand, not all things can. and so, we get plagues. that last one a hundred years ago, and a really big one almost a thousand years before that. and plagues aren't the only way nature makes "corrections" to use the economic term.
