LMAO Keep trying to convince yourself of that. It's funny, I've heard that exact line about the handshake from my army stepdad. But we wouldn't expect you to be original.
Standing up for what you believe or blindly following your conditioned upbringing? There is nothing brave about the actions of the military in Iraq - what the US government labels as terrorists is people who are fighting to maintain their independance from the US forces, nine times out of ten using the very guns that the CIA and the US government sold to them in the first place. Almost every war since the '50s has been started deliberately by the US government - the US has funded and supplied just about every "terrorist" movement in every continent - Afghanistan, Cuba, Europe, Ireland, Iraq, Iran, Central and South America, the former Soviet Union, you name it the US has had ties to it, and usually with the knowledge that those guns and supplies will be used against their own troops in a few years time. Its a strategy that comes out of a persistent belief in pure capitalism, governments being run as profit making enterprises, and distracting the population by shiny new products, shiny new wars and shiny new enemies to take away the focus from the political powerbase and as an excuse for their enforcement of non-democratic policies, policies designed to label any dissent as traitorous - it's already illegal to import anything which the American government deems as being anti-government, it won't be long before possession of anti-government literature or ideas is illegal too. George Orwell was one of the greatest socio-political commentators when he wrote 1984 but his writing was so ahead of its time it became ignored and misinterpreted so many times. As Bill Hicks said of the Gulf War Part One - "the persian gulf distraction". So pretty with all the fireworks and it took our minds off of domestic issues. Western governments seem purely focused on maintaining the status quo and profiteering, they have forgotten about democracy for by and of the people and are primarily concerned with nurturing financial relationships to fund campaigns that ensure their hegemonic stability.
You're probably one of the few thinking with a clear head. It takes great bravery for someone in your situation to stand up for what YOU believe in. While I don't agree with the war in Iraq and believe strongly that it is based partially on lies I can't bring myself to sound off directly to the O.P. who has already made his decision. I support our troops by hoping that they come home safe and sound before they do something or something happens that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
its just really hard for me to support it, when the majority of my friends already hate being in, because its the same exact shit that happens at this place - no difference. same thing, just that they get paid to do it now.
the funny thing about war is that people get wounded anti personel mines and associated weapons are a good way to get wounded, this typically results in some sort of permanently incapacitating injury, blindness is a typical injury, head wounds or getting a limb blown off usually the foot/ leg. once you get shipped back home you have a long time to relive the glory days when you were working properly and wonder what it was all about, when it didn't make one iota of difference and the people who sent you off to fight a war are sipping champagne in their exclusive villa. the military thrives on people who don't actually know much about life in general.
you know, i SAID that i NEVER said that i supported what he's doing or how he's handling it on here, but you all seem you know...just a tiny bit hypocritical criticizing him when yall are over here wishing him harm
ok well I am not going to get into this because I dont want to get yelled at and have people make false assumptions about me or what I stand for.. I also dont want people ,wanting me to get shot lol so all I really have to say is *To the poster of this thread* Dont get hurt, and dont hurt others remeber at the end of that weapon there is a living being, just like you, just like me ... just like everyone on this forum.. We all bleed the same , we all hurt the same , we all love the same Do you think going over there and hurting other people ( I am not just talking about you I am talking about the war in general) is going to solve anything ? violence is a vicious cycle and in history it seems like it just never solved anything.... I am not trying to bash what you are about I am just trying tell you were I am comming from and I want to understand were you are comming from ... Like I said before be careful try not to get harmed or cause harm to others Peace<3 Katy
I agree with these sentiments, every soldier on both sides is a human being, and despite my opinions and wish that the western world had a beneficial benign government that wasn't obsessed with the issues surrounding the events of the past few years, it is still human beings out there fighting, it could be your son/daughter/lover/whatever, and it could still be my son when he is old enough... Have no harm happen to you, but remember to always question authority and the wisdom of decisions involving something so serious.
soldiers obey orders they do not think or do what they want soldiers do not live in a democratic system you are required to "support" the troops because of illegal orders given to them by their commanders?? the best thing you can do is remove the idiot who gives the orders.... unless you think the idiot giving the orders isn't actually an idiot but a man of integrity? you can't "support" a man who has given away his freedom willingly to fight in war that is illegal for an army that does not follow the geneva convention. by supporting him you are actually supporting the government who has given him illegal orders. by supporting the troops you are in essence agreeing to all of the governments actions. most of these heroes just want to kill something. an army comprised of people not wanting to do this and not want to obey orders is useless in the field. an army is designed to kill. this is why removing the government that gives stupid and illegal orders is necessary. remove the government remove the troops from unecessary harm to themselves and other people. democracy is a beautiful thing if you want it to be, instead of the ugly beast it has become under bush and the fifth column that gnaws away at american society.
tank does not equal mobile artillary. did you read his post? he doesn't believe it, he is shell believing it because he needs to for the purpose of accomplishing middle term goals <which is going to suck when they reactivate him in his 30's, damn, shoulda thought of that> standing up for your beliefs? that isn't what americans are supposed to do. and I strongly doubt you do it, because if you really did, I bet you wouldn't have an internet connection, unless you are the most souless worthless sack of ever because you'd have to be to accept all of this, and it to fit with your principles. and you would have to kill soldiers, ho had no real comprehension of what they were doing, to accomplish it, really decent people, who really thought they were doing the right thing, because they have never had the opportunity to know any better kill em all and let god sort em out?
Is chuck stil around? I wish i could be homoerotic with him one last time. Oh yeah, for all of those old Yh-ers who think i am just randomly jumping in here...Ya'll know who i am....and I was legendary :H Mainly for being adorable. And pissing Ed off for some reason.
never have been, never will be, but someone who thinks they are doing right, dying for a lie, and dying, even worse, for a hollow lie, is perhaps the emptiest death that can be made we should not be heralding it as an alternative, if it is required, yes, certainly, but if it is possible to sway the paths of these individuals before it is too late, all the better.
