why the fuck would u wanna do that? you know, i think soldiers have the right to be treated equally like normal citizens and that it isn't really their fault if the government's decisions are idiotic... but for god sakes man, why do you wanna encourage that? I have no respect for the army... if only people knew how badly they were manipulated, starting back at the gulf war where Bush dad used an advertisement company, selling the world bullshit about how Iraqi's were killing babies and destroying incubators in Koweit... finally the U.S. got their fuckin war, they went in Irak... through a fucking marketting scam... the company Hill and Knowlton got hired by the ones seeking profit in an invasion of Irak to sell us the idea of the benefits of doing so like a fuckin cereal commercial.
The army today is like a thrill, people who like heavy sensations and to feel like theyre doing helpful things through demanding situations...
I have no respect for you, I hope you'll be alright there for sure, but I still despise what you're doing.
You cant fight terror, this whole war is totally bullocks, you can gain money and natural resources but you can't get rid of the <nasty entities> that take away the peace and democracy from this world... I hope you don't kill anyone, even if they're <terrorists>, they're only seen like that by us occidentals, the world holds more than 200 countries and the fact there are different ways of life in the world cannot be changed. This is all useless, and what you're gonna be doing there is all useless considering the freedom of mankind, all you'll accomplish is help your country and the rich ones who buy their liberty to stay rich and powerful while you're being used and fed bullshit

Live your life by your own rules... when it all boils down, the only person's approval you need to be concerned about is your own. Go. Do what you need to do. Come back in one piece physically and mentally.

How about instead of bashing him for making his own decision, we let him go and wish him well? You call yourselves hippies, you're a bunch of assholes. Someone's gotta do it now that it's already been started and better that he volunteer his services than no one at all and we all get drafted anyway!

Good luck, man, hope all is well and you have a safe journey.

I don't. Personally, I hope he gets shot and sees several of his friends get shot. Maybe that will wake him up and he'll realize how serious war is.

Go fuck yourself? I mean, that may be rude of me, .. no wait, I'll say it again, go fuck yourself. What the fuck is wrong with you? "I hope he gets shot" and "sees several of his friends get shot" ?

So you literally, genuinely inside of you hope that someone you possibly know gets shot. By a bullet. Do YOU realize how serious war is? Donovan said it best, "He's the universal soldier and he really is to blame, without him this fightin and killin wouldn't go on." However, this is a fucked up world. Instead of wishing the absolute worst upon your fellow countrymen, perhaps say, "Gee, thats not what I would do. I love you, take care."

What do you think spreads hate? More hate. So, with that I wouldn't want to be a hypocrite, and I apologize for saying go fuck yourself. Love this guy, don't hate on him.

Go read a book by a military officer, that should improve your perspective on life. Read how much he likes seeing his friends get shot. Its like your brother (if you have family) getting shot. Seriously, people become very attached to their fellow soldiers. Please think before you say something so unintelligent.

I don't remember any footage of the hippies lining up wishing good luck to all the soldiers in the Vietnam war. Any how, he is entitled to do as he pleases with his life...Going to a foreign country looking forward to executing terrorists 'all in good fun' is not his life! It's the lives of my brothers and sisters(the human race).
I hope he never gets to go! Now, that IS a hippy wish.

First of all, i personally wasnt bashing him, and im sure others werent either. Its not a personal thing, its a thing against the "war" in general. No-one said anything about how he shouldnt be allowed to make that choice for himself, because of course he should
Secondly i never knew hippies were about murder or exploitation
Thirdly i dont call myself a hippy

Wave, Good luck and God bless. Keep in mind you are going there for one reason and one reason only. There are very rich and powerful people that stand to make a lot of money by you being there. They don't care about you, they care about oil. I'm sure you will be fine, you seem to be a tough, fine Man. Some of the Soldiers you serve with will come back without arms or/and legs or other injuries. Your Commanders are stopping the bleeding and then putting them on the street. That is a price we pay for Freedom (we don't have Freedom, we have Liberties). I want every Soldier to have state of the art tools to do their job. They don't. I want every Soldier to have the best health care and rehab. the world has ever seen. They don't. We are the only Superpower on the planet. The US of A is the richest Country on the face of the Earth. There is no excuse. The place you are going has been at war with itself for hundreds of years. It's what they do. We don't understand it because we can't. The last e-mail I got stated baby wipes were still going for a buck a piece. Don't forget to pack some.

Our President is just a tool. Don't look behind the curtain.

I absolutely hate the "we must pay for freedom" mentality. No we don't. The only reason we think we do and actually do so is because apparently humans are still too basic a creature to understand we aren't free and can't ever be free under that system of thought.

Would you explain the depth of this then? I understand that you are saying you hope he has some sort of epiphany. However, how could what you have said even be close to constructive? It sounds like you're wishing a death wish upon him. I guess the only thing to me that you could be talking about is when he said, "its all in good fun." If thats the case, well, sure - thats not the best way to approach going into war. To me it didn't seem like you were doing anything but wishing bad things upon him.

Well we are in volatile times right now like vietnam was, so as you can see the only people with heightened emotions arent just the ones going over seas and killing other humans. I dont think that poster actually wants anyone to die or be harmed which is why hes reacting like that.

This "soldier" is not honorable in my opinion. He is coming onto a hippie website where he knows a high amount of pacifists congregate and is attempting to antagonize us. Probably driven by his own inner conflicts that killing is not ok, even if your "country" says it is ok. To everyone who sees beyond borders and nationalism, murder is murder.

Now I dont wish harm upon him but I am disturbed by his ignorance and callousness. Although I know he is just a naive youth, probably been sucking on his mamas tit in surburbia for the past 20 years and now wants to shoot a gun.

The brainwashing has already begun though, which makes a good soldier. Soldiers can't question anything. They have no freedom, no independent thought. Trust me I know. I come from military lineage on one side of my family. So you can call them terrorists all you want, but the truth is they are just people trying to live their lives. I grew up in the dc area and have a lot of friends from that part of the world. They are good people, and they really care about each other in families and friendships. On the flip side, I also grew up around a lot self-satisfying rednecks like the op.

I wish death on nobody but I understand the other posters frustration and hoping for him to have a realization. Whatever energy you put out, won't necessarily return to you, but that energy can really affect someone else negatively. Which is just fucked up. What gives you the right?

If I wanted him to die I would have said so. I just said shot, which it sounds like he really deserves anyway.

Let's see if he thinks war is "all in good fun," when he nearly dies, and whether I wish it upon him or not, I guarentee you he WILL see some people he knows personally get shot and possibly die if he's there very long.

It's amazing how quick you all are to judge.

None of you even know Chuck... and some of you are wishing for him to get shot.

    Tsk, tsk, tsk.

    Idiots.

Cool thanks for taking time to post that deviate, it was mature and well thought out. We disagree when you said, "murder is murder." Allow me to create a scenario: You have a child (age is not important), you have a family and a house. You have learned that your neighbor up the street disagrees with your lifestyle, and to teach you a lesson he is going to kill your kid. Are you going to let him do it because, 'they are just trying to live life', or are you going to protect him and kill them before they can do it? Murder and killing are not the same. Though I don't ever want to kill anyone, if a member of my family is under a violent assault I will kill the attacker before they can do any harm to my family. Because I know their ultimate goal is to kill, I will stop at nothing to keep them from doing that.

Yes, there are some bad apples in the military. These are the types that would shoot a child/woman. However, from my personal experience and the accounts of others that I have read, the majority of our soldiers are not bad apples. Yes, children/women have been and will be murdered. But, to generalize and act as though every single soldier (or this man, Chuck) are as guilty as the rest, is ignorant.

Its easy to point out problems, its harder to point out solutions, and the hardest to execute the solutions.
