i seem to recall something called the L-5 society. i also remember somebody was going to create an ocean floor arcology once upon a time. L-5 almost certainly still exists. well of course legraingian point five does, but i mean the society that was trying to raise the means to put a colony there. it IS perfectly possible, with the right kinds of tecnologie, and the skills to maintain it, to develop a culture completely isolated from any sort of dependence on the rest of humanity. of course that means having to be able to create ALL the nuts and bolts you need to keep it going yourself. still perfectly doable. other then preventing the nearest soverign nation from marching it's army in there and telling you how to live in ways you don't believe in anyway. which is the problem in the first place, near as i can tell. you anna gonna do it with just acorn meal and flakes of obsidian unless there's few enough of you and you can keep a really low profile, which everyone talks about doing but few who do ever really do. the idea with ships sounds good but then you've somehow got to grow enough food onboard to feed everybody. =^^= .../\...
Hey all, it's been a long time. I left the forums for a while, along with some others, due to some severe negativity. I figured it's about time that I come back, I'm sure that things have cooled down since. In the meantime, I've been studying and trying to come up with new ideas. If we are to set things up in the United States, we will no doubt have to buy some land. So I suggest that everyone interested, begin saving, just in case. Hopefully we can find a place outside of the US that has suitable land at a decent price. It will need plenty of animals, a clean source of water (or at least, not polluted), and plenty of space for farming and setting up shelters. After reading comments, other ideas and planning, we would not necessarily have to break away completely, it would be nice, but probably not very feasible in the beginning. Maybe eventually we could do that, but we'll take baby steps to make sure things go right. I gotta head out to work in a bit, but I'll be back later tonight.
Trying desperately to round up as many brits on this forum for Saturdays rally for climate control. As it is spiralling out of control. So far, the brits are more being and less doing than say Europe.
"where are we going?" "planet ten!" "when are we gonna get there?" "real soon!" (from: -buckaroo bonasai in the eighth dimention- ) (which also gave us "no matter where you go; there you are!") =^^= .../\...
ah! i finally found you guys!!! people who share my idea for a perfect Utopia!!! except i'm two years too late. shit. look guys, you need to come back. i'm pretty sure my purpose in life is to help create a place such as this. i actually have a savings account devoted to it. i'm literally saving every penny. when the time comes i'll be happy to hand over everything i have to see this happen. seriously.
Instead of gathering as one big colony, I suggest we do what winterashes is talking about, but start with colonies all over the nation. start with a couple, and then expand, if the nation is startign to see that we are depleting and destructing everything and starts to go "green", the nation might notice what us hippies are doing by starting and expanding these colonies, maybe instead of just one big colony, we have a main colony that is central or something, and do what they did back in the day, like trading and what not, and instead of owning a country, own communites, own our own states, of course the government would have a huge problem with this, that should be our concern, this nation isn't free. i plan on hopefully getting my music and band out, maybe get those contracts, use my portion of the money to buy an island and sponsor these colonies, and start moving to this island, growing many types of things, starting new life, think of it as a hippy vacation spot, a utopia for us, a chance to start over...
The United States government is probably the most evil organization on the face of the planet in terms of killing people- I want no fucking part of that. The scenarios laid out in this thread would be ideal. But reality has got to sink in- I can say with almost absolute certainty this will never happen. Id rather move to another country who is a little bit more tolerant of free-thinking, and willing to give peace a chance. Thats all I'm asking for. Forgive me America, for not being a materialistic asshole concerned only about the newest Mercedes every year. Forgive me, for thinking about the thousands of dying children in foreign nations, and not having any concern about a fraudulent war in a country we have no business being in. Fucking forgive me. America needs to be re-built from the ground up, right now, it is a disgrace to this planet.
thats what i meant by the island...as a last resort, grow new life, but still expand within the country, i plan on doing something, thats for damn sure, but actions speak louder than words, i hate conforming, and i start this rebellion now...
You'd really like this website it's similar to what your thinking about I think, it's a blog about how to branch of from society, but beware it's alot of reading, good stuff though. :afro: http://ranprieur.com/essays/dropout.html
Heres a forum on self reliant living, might be a little conservative for some of you but there is a bunch of good ideas. http://www.backwoodshome.com/forum/yabb/forum.pl
im just saying, if its possible, then it is totally possible to turn this nation around, slowly but surely
How has anyone really done anything to move this forward so far? First of all- you need a place to do this. Thats going to be hard enough, considering nobody has the funds to do so. If somebody comes up and says "Hey guys, you can use my daddys island in the south pacific for this" then I am in. In reality, its going to be nowhere near that easy. And staying within the confines of the U.S. is going to be a problem too. Theres very few places in this country that are still rural enough to do something of this calibre. All forest/woodland land in the U.S. is likely controlled by parks or conservation groups- who are definitely not going to let a bunch of people go live off their land. You guys are focusing on survival and nature aspects of this. Well, I hate to break it to you, but if you dont have a place to do this- you're still gonna be sittting behind your computer screen talking about it. And are you guys talking about doing this permanantly- like never returning to society? If thats the case- good luck having ANY followers. If not- you need some form of money/transportation to take people to and from your little society. So you would still need to be invovled with some form of currency and technology. Then there is the physical aspect of it. It is MUCH harder than you would think, having to hunt, fish and pick your own food. Many people wouldnt last a month living "off the land" hell, look at the amount of bitchin/complaining that goes on on "Survivor"- and they are only doing it for a month! Dont get me wrong, it can be done, but its FAR easier to read books and chat about it online than it is to actually go out there and do it. If I were you, take a week or two and try to live in a local forest with very little supplies and no food- its a tad more difficult than one might think. Now, dont get me wrong, I am for this idea as much as the next guy. But if you guys plan on ever going somewhere with this- Im not sure an internet message board is the place to "start the revolution." Actions do speak louder than words; so far we have seen very little.
easier said than done...but in reality...its not that hard...thats what im saying, imo...maybe im just a dumbass...but thats my own opinion..
Haha, if its so easy, go for it buddy. Go out there and get something done. So far you have done nothing but talk, and talk, is the only thing that is easy my friend. Bingo! Im just messing with ya man. This thread is pretty much cashed in my book, apparently it didnt take everyone long to lose interest, just as I had suspected. Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but this was never going anywhere from day 1.
Four Winds: popped in to see where this thread was going, as you said nowhere. The only post I made here was a link to Backwood homes forum. Where a lot of folks have made the break or planning too. Of course they are a lot older and have worked and saved to buy their rural home. Felt if I dropped the reality boom on this thread, it would be like bursting into the tea partys my daughters had out on the lawn when they were little. " Hell girls theres no tea in that pot, your just pouring air". No, a grown up doesn't breakup a game of make believe. Thats why we're grown ups and their children.......
There should be a mass exodus, but for most people, letting go of the things they've become accustomed to is the hard thing. Learning to let go of jealousy in a free and loving environment is something else that would need to be addressed since this society sets up mental barriers in people so they feel bad when they're in these situations. It's an awesome idea and I'd join ya Just make sure there's plenty of love going around
