    i agree to an exent
especially because of globalisation and the world being connected more now than ever. and i think it will eventually diminish cultural differences as well, bringing on a wave of mass uniformity.

In the next hundred years everyone on earth will know one of 6 languages, Farsi, swahili, mandorin, spanish, hindi, and english, and most people will probably know about two.

Anyone who thinks that will lead to a bland society should look at the culture of a culturally globalized place like the northeastern US vs say, the midwest where the culture is static.

The future will become more homoginized in terms of language and ethnicity, but in terms of most other things we consider culture, music, fasion, food, will become more complex and diverse and more accesible to everyone. This is pretty appearent from looking at any metropolitan area.

    Utah sucks.

it seems that english has the greatest pull than any other language (but maybe its my american ego talking) so its a more likely candidate for the universal language, although it would prolly sound nothing like the english of today

hei it is not possible at least until we have germans, and russians, chinese and japanese on the earth..
Tho people will just be more educated and know more than in the past, nuthing else..
Nobody will teach only english and change teir official language to english as it is something else..
I wonder how we would look as we would all look the same?
    Half black and wog-eyed? lol

actually, english is consdered like the second hardest to learn.

    The grammar is easy.

Subject..verb..predicate. However, there are a billion exceptions to the rules..homynyms etc.

Why does everyone learn it? Hollywood. American business and American culture.

    plus it is tres/uber cool.

what is the first one then?
    chinese?
    japanese?
    estonian?
    finnish?
    russian?

This doesnt make sense, try to study some really cool languages and compare it to english and you will notice that yer totally wrong about it.. every fool can study english.. Id consider italian one of the easiest ones as well..

chinese because of all the characters.

I'm not saying it is. Thats just what i've been told by professors and i've read the same. I would have guessed languages like farsi, tamil, jap/chin/russian etc were far harder.

English has easy grammar..like i said. But mastering english is hard.

Any idiot can say "George Bush Are Dumb." I understand what the person is saying, but that's not correct english.

i give you an examle about hard stuff...
Est language has cases, pluss the ordinary (i do, you do and so on)

go goes went in estonian: -> minema, läheb, läks

    1. I go
    2. You go
    3. we go
    4. you go
    5. they go

    Estonian:
    1. mina lähen
    2. sina lähed
    3. tema läheb
    4. meie läheme
    5. teie lähete
    6. nemad lähevad

    Doing something needs concentration.
    Millegi(something) tegemine(doing) vajab(needs) keskendumist(concentration).

    Exeption example: wolf (susi)
who: (susi), whos: (soe) whom: (sutt) <- exception (and estonian language has them a lot)

It's not that we can't prove who is right or wrong, it is that NO ONE can possibly BE right or wrong. It is a matter of personal opinion.

Usually a person will appreciate the language they either grew up with or use the majority of the time. Thus, I am partial to English. I am familiar with Spanish, Italian, Greek, and Latin. I have never studied any of the languages of the orient. Therefore I have no frame of reference to compare the languages of the world and decide what I would consider to be the most difficult to learn. I would only assume that what is considered difficult by one would be considered easy by another.

Take programming languages. I loathed cobol. Many people in my classes loved it. Likewise, I LOVED assembly language because I totally get the logic of ones and zeros, yet most of the people I have been around can't stand that.

It is all a matter of opinion.

The lesson on Estonian was quite interesting though. I have never seen that language either, but it seems to follow the standard romance language model. Thanks for opening my eyes to that.

i dont do programming, i know some html, and i wouldnt call it programming..
i wanted to go to uni and study some, but i changed my mind as i had oportunity to take some lessons in highschool - not my thingy, i cant concentrate on things so much, and to be perfect, you need good memory, which i dont have couse of being beer lover..
i do know some in russian (can communicate in low level - never been studying it at school, started to talk it as i had to know some language @ work. tho the pronunciation sounds difficult, the same with reading and writing it - couse of the alfabet)...
been studying german for 6 years in the past (which i dont speak, couse i didnt had any practise and need to study it more after highschool, nor in the uni).. im familiar with finnish language (similar to estonian) never had it @ school as well, just went to the chatroom and was looking what people were typing, did the same back..
english - well everyone knows it, it is second language in most of the places..
french - never had oportunity to study some, couse i had the other languages @ school and as im out of highschool i dont have any time for that..
italian - had one year, where i skipped most of the classes so i dont know much of it, but as much as i had it, it seems to be easy..
icelandic, sweden - prolly its up to my brain, people say the lang is easy to understand and stuff, but they are all wrong (lol in my case) couse prolly my ear cant understand when one word is ending and other one is starting.. so i dont really get it..
greek - haha everyone knows pipa and poustish and malaka (dont know how to write) :D
spanish - doesnt sound difficult to me.. and i guess as you know some of this group languages you can get portugese easily as well..

the text i typed above is based on my experiences.. no offence again, chill ok
