Yah, Bend is cool.... BUT BUT BUT.... You have to have a job lined up BEFORE you move here, or have some savings to live on. Bend is NOT cheap and jobs are few and far between! Plus, getting a good job takes knowing someone that works for the company, even at the hospital, St. Charles. That said... Bend is a great place to be. It has EVERYTHING you could want. All the outdoor activities, great cultural and community events, very pet friendly. I would say that there is a good mix of people here. A very diverse population. We have every religion, people of every nationality, every income level, and folks are (from what I've seen) pretty tolerant of one another. Yes, green is big here, too. So is paganism.
I don't know... I don't like Bend very much, it's good to drive through on my way to Cali, sometimes stay the night, but it gives me the creeps... It's all one really long street (as far as I know) except in downtown and if you go off towards the butte... Then you get Costco! Yeah! Umm... I guess the real reason I don't really care for it is because it reminds me of the rednecksville where I live. Eugene is ok. It gets too warm there for me to enjoy but it's all good. Especially going a little more east on the weekend of July 9th... OCF is the best festie ever. We all need to fix it and get alchoholic assholes to stop staying at the darling reunion though... if you know what I mean... Trust me, if anybody wants to hear about any town in WA or OR, I could tell them about it. I have been all over through there.
To each his own. Me, I hate the desert, so I would rather be on the other side of the mountain... But, for some reason, I have always been the most successful, living in desert areas... Weird.
And i could tell you about a lot of places in N.A. too, but see here's rthe thing about these kinds of discusions; everytime i go to a place i have different experience. the people i go there with have a different experience than me. places i hate, people love, places i love, people hate. Certain things really cant be conveyed about a place.
Landscape is something that isnt bound to change too quickly...That's a good one. For instance, I live in the Willamette Valley. In Oregon we have high desert, coast, old-growth forest (maybe), but here it's the grass-seed capital of the world. Farmland. That's a valley for ya.
i know that we have the same user name but, i am also moveing to O.R. charston i thank thats how you spell it, me and my friends are fixing up a 26 foot saitlboat there and i going to move there in june PEACE
Raven23...love your description of the different citys. LOL. Yeah, Bend is pretty yuppy...ish...I spent some time in Bend last summer, usually when we're down there in Central Oreogn, we're more in the Redmon/Terrebone area, and go through Bend to get to Mt. Bachelor. But Smith Rock is cool...love climbing there and hiking around. My dad wants to move down to Central Oregon pretty soon...more the Redmond/Terrebone area, maybe Sisters, but as others have said, Bend is expensive. And I think just want to be out of the city, too. Which is cool. The Starbucks in Bend (There's probably more than one, lol...but then was the one like downtown...it had a totally different vibe. I went in there with my dad's g/f's daughter and her friend. I normally don't like the vibe in Starbucks, but this one was like...different. Still didn't buy anything though. )
i wanan move to oregon soooo bad!!!! i wanan bea surfer and live on the beach in a little run down beach house with a surfer boyfreind and surf all day!!! this will happen i know, as soon as i finish college, in like a yr...but im in canada rite now..so who knows...where is the nicest place to live in oregon where u can surf?with nice people too
If you want to live on the beach, I would suggest California. It is warmer there, especially So. Cal. This is much more condusive to year-round beach living.
