seconding cormac mccarthy. i'm currently reading "suttree", but dont tackle it as a school project. this guys vocabulary is freaking huge.

 

Well, Wide-eyed, at least in SUTREE, THE ORCHARD KEEPER, OUTER DARKNESS and CHILD OF GOD, he's writing in English. Wait to you get to BLOOD MERIDIAN, ALL THE PRETTY HORSES, THE CROSSING, and CITIES OF THE PLAIN . It sure as hell helps to know Spanish, and even then: he uses Spanish slang which isn't in any cross-language dictionary I have. I haven't read his new one-- it just came out, but the critics slammed it. Fuck them, as I'm sure he feels-- if they could write, they would do it.
