don't worry it's not punk. it's some cool, mellow, Dave Mathew's Band or Counting Crows-like stuff. you'd like it. uh, I think.
You need to cross o'er the threshold into the exciting world of INDIE-ROCK. I recommend you start with the Flaming Lips as a focal point.. move unto buying everything released by the Matador & Elephant Six labels. Then.. O then, that mystic day, my friend, then you shall be cool. Rock on.
goto my band's website and email us, we'll send you one of our practice sessions and a few extras on tape.
Try my favorites: Dream Theater (beautiful rock music) Cky...funny shit, but good music, i think Liquid Tension Experiment (dream theater w/o vocals) Alice in Chains (classic! gotta love em) try some oldies, like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and the doors stuff like that...
You want some good music.. PUT IN SOME R.E.M.. Still rockin to this day.. THey have over 20 records.......great rock band and still great.. MY all time fav.. oh listin to some jimi too hehe
I have bolded the following excellent bands for your convenience. Personally, I like a lot of traditional Celtic music. Go for the Gaelic Storm. They're awesome. LOL, you're probably like :/ so here, I listen to a lot of other stuff too. I guess kind of along those celtic lines are Flogging Molly. I really don't like Dropkick Murphy; they seem like a watered down Flogging Molly. You definately need to start listening to the Beatles man; I'm surprised no one has said that yet. Or maybe they have, and I just wasn't paying attention. Also some Queen and Presidents of the United States of America. Definately look into Presidents...OTUSA (too long to type out); they're the best. 13th Floor Elevators has some weird instrument in everyone one of their songs, but they're really good. Anyone know what that instrument is? Luca Turilli is crazy cool, Blind Guardian too. They're kinda weird metal, I guess. Oh wow, Donovan definately. You can't go wrong with Donovan. The Eagles make me happy, and you should check out Gordon Lightfoot if you want some more folkish music. Joni Mitchell has really great songs. I'm sure you will find Bob Dylan's singing to be quite melodic and pleasing. Oooo, you'll love this; go New Age and try Loreena McKennitt and Enya LOL, the Arrogant Worms are a funny Canadian group. All they sing about is stuff in Canada. Simon and Garfunkle are lovely, although I do not know why they often insist on putting two completely different songs together into one confusing, yet surprisingly good song (i.e. Scaborough Faire, but I really have no complaints except being confused because that's the best song ever). Yes, the Grateful Dead, already been said, Led Zeppelin, ditto, Pink Floyd, even more of the ditto-ing. Hmm, actually mostly I listen to just one or two songs from a whooole lotta different artists, so I'm just trying to think of the ones that I find myself listening to more than the others. :O I forgot Blind Melon!! They make me all kinds of undescribable happy. TheLittleOne, I frickin love your signature! Why did he have to die? *sniff* Perfect example of why you don't do coke, kids! Well that was long and probably not very helpful and I feel like I'm missing a lot of people, but there you go! Hilary's Grand List of Some of the People She Listens to! YA!
Try out some Unida or some Porno for Pyros. They are both great. Kyuss is another great band that alot of people like, but just never hear of. Alice in Chains is always a good investment of time, because other then the songs that cantrell sing on, there isn't a bad song they do. I love all their albums. Give them a try because what you hear on the radio really can't come close to what they are really about.
http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8289 There's a band that I mentioned in a previous thread. They're a rarity from the early 70's, look this up... And you should really look up some old music. Like alot of my compadres here on the forums, I too have reverted to the music of the 60's and 70's, because of the lack of artistic ability in music today. And yes, as others have said, it is the best music ever made.
these are the CDs lying around next to my CD player: 1) Mum 2) Sigur Ros 3) Lemon Jelly 4) Rosenstolz 5) Jellyfish I hope it helps. ~H F L www.stereolights.com
