Yeah... see a doc. In the mean time, try this. With one hand, using the thumb and forefinger, grab the web between the thumb and forefinger of the other hand, get up into the meaty area. Pinch as hard as you can and hold it... Gonna hurt like hell but hold it as long as you can. Repeat this procedure with the other hand. May hurt so bad tears come from your eyes, if so that means you are doing it right. This will sooth a migraine but is not a cure.... see a doc.
ER's (most) are required to take you in and stabilize you. I remember once several years ago I had a tooth abscess that had my face swollen to the point that it was hard to see out of one eye. I was so down and out I couldn't afford cab fare, so I walked 2 miles to the hospital. The doc at the ER gave me a prescription for antibiotics that I couldn't pay for. They couldn't just give them to me there (we're not set up for that). So I took my worthless script and went home. I was lucky. Eventually the infection subsided. It could have killed me. A month later I got a bill from the hospital for almost $600. For what? They sent it to collections and I eventually paid it off, but I kept asking myself, what good did they do me? This was well before I got into the VA system. I broke my arm once and had to let it heal on it's own. I worked for well over a month until it quit hurting. Luckily it was a simple fracture that healed straight. That is the life of the low-income uninsured. And it ain't pretty.
Migraines are pretty awful. A general MD should be able to help you with these. Triptan drugs like Imitrex work great for knocking out most attacks. But if you're getting more than a couple a week, a doctor is likely going to put you on something to prevent them. I've found Metoprolol, 25mg/day works well and I don't get any side effects from it. If your migraines respond to conventional treatment, they probably won't run any tests or scans. I've been plagued by these for years, hopefully you can get some relief from the misery!
