R.A. Wilson is amazing I highly recommend anyone who wants something good to read, google his name, you can download .pdf's
its true. The Partiot Act is a perfect example, only it goes much deeper. Our phone calls are recorded by computers that pick up certain keywords... the internet is always being monitored, logged and stored somewhere... I wouldn't be surprised at all if this site was being watched. There are more cops on the streets every day. People's cellphones are being bugged... people's e-mail being watched. There's cameras everywhere.
yeah, yeah. but I think they're more interested in actual national security threats than they are in pot smokers. do you personally have an example of your civil liberties actually being violated by the patriot act?
True, there ARE cameras everwhere, I mean EVERYWHERE. My question to you is, why does that bother you at all?
Thats not really relevant though, they shouldnt have the legal right to violate civil liberties if they choose to. And in fact, those powers are not enumerated under the Constitution, so the patriot act is not even valid law.
well. I don't really know enough to get into a full-blown USA PATRIOT act thing lol. I'm not quite that smart. but most of the things people seem to get angry about and associate with the patriot act already existed under other legislatures, FISA for example. FISA has never been found in a court to be unconstitutional. much of the patriot act is an expansion of powers that the government already had / was already exercising. not that it makes everything happening right, but it's not all to be blamed on patriot. I really just think that most of the hysteria surrounding the act is misinformed. No, I don't like the idea of my civil liberties being violated. But I don't have an example to give of the patriot act violating them. Most people don't. and, again, I honestly think that the government is more interested in bigger threats than a few pot smokers here and there. :]
Well its the slippery slope concept that bothers me, you termed it perfectly - expansion of powers And youre right, there is plenty of unconstitutional legislation prior to the patriot act. It is just one more to add to the list What they need is a compression of powers
As for most people not having a specific example, that is true also But one example is too much imo There are claims and examples that I have read about, but would need to research further
