Actually how bad is 'SLS' for dreads. What about it causes problems? is that residue, or what? I STRUGGLE to find shampoos and soaps without the stuff

i use the dreadheadhq soap and nothing else,no wax or crappy lock peppa.anyway i feel the soap gets my dreads clean and very dry and they feel much tighter after, which is a good thing.

The solution to your problem is baking soda. I was having a similar issue and getting really bad build due it being winter and all. I washed my hair once with baking soda, then once mixed with Bronners, and then a final rinse of just bronners. It may seem excessive but it did the trick. My scalp hasn't felt so good in years. You could also substitue the bronners with diluted ACV. I would definitely use some baking soda.

TBH, since I have started using lush bars, I have had a ridiculous dandruff build up :(

Going to have to seriously try something else :(
For now I think its deep clense & an ACV rinse :)

stick with deep cleanse..cheapest and best solution and its what uy know works
keep bronners or other around for when u feel u need soap and nothing but sosap..like after rolling in mud or working under a car with oil andgreesa dripping in your hair

I started out using the KB residue-free shampoo bar and it seemed to be helping my newbie dreadies tighten a treat. After a while though it began to make my head itch really badly (I think the essential oils in it were just a bit too harsh). I switched to a Lush bar the other week and since I've been using it I've noticed my hair is softer, silkier, there is much more frizz, and it's actually setting the dreading back some as up til then it was going really quickly. I could see each dread coiling up that bit more after each wash with the KB soap, now my hair is a mass of soft, silky fluff :(. To me this screams only one thing: CONDITIONING RESIDUES!!!! Gonna switch to baking soda.

Also, does anyone have any experience of using soapnuts as a shampoo alternative?

i luuuurve the KBoy 'poo bar, it smells like beautiful things, but im not sure if i wanna use it on this set of dreadies, cause ive got bicarb etc, and im also thinkin of doing a t-gel wash every other week to keep the flakies under control

think im finally gonna have to start thinkin bout the deep cleanse mix...still using the local "pure nature" šampoo if anyone happens to remember, probably not, anyway it is loaded with sulfates and other unpronounceable names, and it's bothering me the more i think about it, but ive got nothing else :x

What I started doing was first starting out with a bicarb wash... I scrub the shit out of my scalp. I usually add big spoon fulls to each cup(I use a 32oz cup not 1 measuring cup's worth) of water. I do a light rinse getting most of the bicarb out but not all. I then add the same amount of baking soda to my diluted bronners. I find that this two part washing totally exfoliated my scalp and leaves everything totally clean with little residue. This is the best combo I have personally tried, I recommend it for sure.

I wear my napps out natural and loosely. Baking soda is the best thing to clarify. It doesn't leave any kind of residue. And it's cheaper than the Lush bars.

This is true. And it doesn't replace my reg shampoo just the clarifying one. I'm going to be trying the Poo Bar from Oyin Handmade.

I really want to try this Lush brand. Do they carry it at health food stores? Where do you get it?

I can't bring myself to walk into lush. It hurts my nose. but I always look at the sparkly bars and wonder if it would make me sparkly or if they would all wash away....I think it'd be pretty neat if you could have permanent sparkles in your dreads :) like sweet little fairie dreads :)
