there is no right and wrong when it comes to this, its all about the individuals taste,

You can't say or think I'm wrong that I THINK Steely Dan are sterile, because only I know that

In your opinion. I think it's an awesome song, worth listening to obsessively.
And as I said, I dig them.

They were great in their day - but that was long time ago. I don't know how relevant the Dead's music is now.....

But they were an awesome band to see. Unique.
Trouble is now that for me, to listen to them would just be retrospective - yesterday's vibe, yesterday's news. At best, to quote Bob Weir "another replica of ecstacy".

Be nice to see some real creative talent of the same magnitude coming from new young bands.

no. The acid tests were in 66, and the warlocks played at a few of them.

The Grateful Dead first performed as 'The Grateful Dead' on 12/04/65.

We are both right in a sense in that their first performance as The Grateful Dead was also the first time they performed at an Acid Test, in this case the San Jose Acid Test.

Either way, the fact they played in these had zero to do with their continued success over history. They didn't start to gather steam until far after the acid tests, not until pretty much 1970. To say that Quick Silver or whomever else could've done what they did is utter nonsense. Plenty of bands got mainstream exposure during those years and didn't do a thing with it.

Knock em' all you want, but the Grateful Dead are the most recorded band in history and Garcia the most recorded musician. He played with EVERYBODY. And that's not because of the acid tests or the scene. It's because he was the most complete guitarist there ever was. Their are plenty vitrouso's such as Hendrix who one could argue was technically more proficient, but no one accomplished more in such a wide array of styles as Garcia did. That is what made the Grateful Dead what they became. That man.

    1. i'd like to nominate the fuckin doors for that most overrated band ever award
    2. i really really liked your song. which is saying something because a. its not put to music and b. i have never really read a poem and said 'wow..this is really good..cool..whatever'

and 3. why the fuck is everyone being such DICKS??
especially whoever said that it was a phase. i'd love to know where you're getting your evidence for this glaringly apparent conclusion of yours

I never said they were'nt good, just over rated. But quicksilver messenger service who came form the same time and same place were easily better then the dead both in studio recordings and live jam wise.
