Yeah the avacado salesman posted a link to a great version of The Greatest Story Ever Told---thanx by the way! great idea check this tune out, I used to not care for it much but I've come to like it more and more in the past ten years http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17241
the grateful dead sound is unlike anything else. they play kooky melodies, harmonize their trippy lyrics, mix blues, jazz, bluegrass, and pure psychedelic experimentation...they may not be the most talented bunch, but the sound reminds me of a bunch of kind folks rocking out as hard as they can, and that love shows in the style. for example, i heard weather report's version of let it grow, and although its more technical and a little tighter, the dead's version is more listenable, more fun, and more unique.
I have to admit, I have HEARD some Grateful Dead, and don't really care for em. Phish either...Does this make me a bad person? Think not...Just u-neek
What are the first 3 words a deadhead says as soon as the trip wears off.... "this band sucks" seriously, I had fun at dead shows when Jerry "hot dogg" Garcia was alive and they were fun, but mostly because I really liked LSD at the time.
I was kind of indifferent to the music until I startied going to the shows. I liked some of it, thought some of it was pretty awful (never understood why they let Bob Weir sing). Now it's an instant positive flashback.
I woldnt say they are the best musicians in the world but there is something MAGICAL about them!! they just make me happy, if i am in a pissy mood i put in my dead CD and woo hoo happy robin is back!
