Having grown up with a bad home life or a bad life in any form does not give them an excuse to act as ignorant as they do, I know many blacks, whites, mexicans, etc who grew up in bad areas yet have made the most of it and are well respected now, it's simply an excuse to not succeed and to be a dick as far as I'm concerned
We're talking more about the media marketing this culture to kids. It's terrible enough that people are being shot and have to sell drugs in poor areas. But when someone in a community who has options turns to these things because they think it's "cool" it's just retarded.
man, i know a guy that did 15 years for murder and he found his ass a 9-5 job. another that did 18 for rape that has the same. urban culture is a culture of violence. you get looked down upon if you don't literally beat the shit out of your kids (not talking spanking here). you've got metal detectors in schools. you've got the most respected members of the community being the biggest most vicious drug dealer on the block. that's just not right. yeah, kids are gonna look for a rebel role model, but at 45, people oughtta be lookin' up to someone that wasn't shot for gang affiliation. i'm not talking about suburban wiggers. they're just harmless posers having a little teenage fun. but regardless, something has to be done about violence in urban america. doesn't america have one of the highest murder rates in the world or something? i bet at least 90% of that is from inner cities. rap needs to come out with stuff like this these days, i swear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4o8TeqKhgY
Every time I see one of those 18 year olds with baggy pants, a gangster-ish shirt, bright colorful shoes, jewelry and and a ball cap I have to cringe a bit.
The media makes it hard 4 a lot of people. Now every1 who might dress or talk a certain way must b poor, dumb, violent, or in a gang.
A couple tried to attack me and my family. I chased em off with a gun. They went home and called the cops and filed a false report against me and I went to jail for defending my family. It cost me my lifes savings of 15,000$ to pay a lawyer to have all charges not even filed. Once the Judge saw the records of my acusers I was free. Little punks acted like gangsters till I fought back then they turned into little bitches and went running to the cops that they hate. This promted me to move my family far away to a small mountain area with hardly any gangster wanna bees. I say if punks want to be running around with guns and threatening to kill their neighbors go to Afganistan. This experience jaded me for ever and my family will never be exposed to these pussy gangsta peices of crap again. I like it here with nice people who actually care about the people they live around. Just wanted to live my life and be left alone. these gangsta asses don't get it that not everyone wants to pay attention to them or hear their noise terrorism pounding through our homes 12 hours a day. Its all about respect for life and these punks have been taught none. Peace, love and happiness
The punks that attacked me lived at home with mommy and had 3 different non existent dads. Went around packin guns and sellin crack. I had a shitty chidhood and was exposed to violence and poverty and I never took it out on anyone. Jealosy does not pay bills get a job and quit worrying about what other people have and lift yourself up. Its not the fault of other hard working people that these thugs are without.
I agree with the sentiments of this thread. The whole culture is based on violence, not true "brotherhood." It is a sham and the media has helped to reinforce it.
"Gangsta" culture is stupid. There's no honor, no respect, and no dignity.. and when a culture has none of those, it can only be chaos. The only problem is, it's been adopted by the mainstream, which means it's being integrated to the American Corporate Culture. Personally, I like rapping. I like the way its delivered. A great way to get across a political message, as shown by RATM and (hed)PE. But when you go from that to ranting about "gettin' dat fine poony and dat bitchin' ride" you've degraded the root of all musical/poetical arts in history. It takes everything to it's lowest level. I'd like to mention, I come from a poorer town, and I've heard AK-47 shots in the distance before. It's a sad sight, but people are (as always) killing each other for gold and "power". If they'd let go of those illusions, we'd never have another problem. There is no "power" that's achievable by a mere mortal, but that's a whole different story. Now, I believe if we could invade their culture via rap music and attempt to educate those "gangstas" into being good human beings, we could eliminate the problem. But alas, it's 3AM, I'm tired, and cannot type much more before I pass out from sleep deprivation. Sorry. (BTW, I'm a white, Libertarian, amateur rapper (rapcore, like RATM) and I will eventually record an album with a "ghetto" sound to it. That would allow me to get my message of peace to the people who need to hear it. PM me if you want to hear my stuff. )
Yeah, hearing a drive-by on your own street isn't cool, and I don't get how any of these people could stick to the culture after bullshit like that, but alas, Americans are currently devolved sheep. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but would like to hear your thoughts, as I've long been hoping the day when (mainstream) hip hop gets real again; legalization. I think it would do a great deal of harm towards the gangster culture - it adds a sympathetic and anti-authoritarian twinge to it, even when it isn't consciously recognized - as most people these days have used illegal drugs in some form, quite many of those enjoying at least one (marijuana if nothing else). I mean, it's sorta like the first prohibition - gangster culture shot way up, all of a sudden all the movies were all about gangsters and they looked bad ass - prohibition ends, cops are the heroes and gang life is dishonorable and dirty (though censors did help some with that =P) I mean, all the gangster culture would have left is money, power and thuggin'. And while the first two, would still attract many, I think the third would be much more visible, and a lot of people would fall out of favor with it. What do you think?
good. If kids are that stupid then fuck them. Would you really want them running the world when you're older anyways. This reminds me of a Bill Hicks quote. Back in the early ninties two kids were trying to recreate an Alice Cooper stunt and accidently hung themselves: "...good, two less gas station attendants in the world. Hey, I'm two car lengths ahead in traffic tomorrow!"
I hate those stupid gangter retards! I see them all the time here! In fact, this girl that I was into, dumped me for one of those thugs!
Well, actually, it was the neighboring street, surprisingly. Our street is much more ghetto, with trailers and crap. There are actually houses on the other one, lol. (But, I still know it was Wangstas who did the shooting. Trust me.) Well, I think that it would need to start in the underground- a form of rap that's not associated with "gangsta" subcultures. I believe this is what it was intended to be, because Akrika Baambaata was anti-gang, and he was a very early hip-hop DJ who influenced many. I can honestly rap decently well- but I don't have the attributes to be popular as a rapper, even an independent one. I'm more set out for rapcore, or maybe electronic rap. Ever hear the rap group Styles of Beyond? They have this one song, "Eurobiks", the beat style itself, if coupled with a good message.. it could actually be popular. But quite frankly, average hip hop today, the beat just don't work with me. But yes.. Personally, I actually listen to more punk than anything, so those ethics kinda stick with me lol. You wouldn't catch me on a major label anyways.
Stock personalities derived from counter culture in general annoy me, but gangster fools are amongst the worst of them. If you're going to completely model your identity off of an external source at least get it right. These morons could have been hippies.
hear hear. You know. "Gangsters" are just a joke, same as gangs. and I mean all gangs. meh, thats all.
