yeah this. money itself is not the problem imo. but putting money as the first priority and letting it gets over important stuff like ethics, then it’s worth of all the hatred
Humans refuse to agree on just providing basic rights to each other such as food and shelter. They say that lazy people will do nothing and ruin the system. You have to earn something and you should just compete for the resources. Right now no one in the world has to be hungry or homeless. So much existing housing is empty and there is empty land. We can grow enough food and the world is thrown away by people who will just buy more when the are hungry. But there is no profit in that. These people can't pay for a house or food so they don't deserve one. Capitalism is not ethical and it's tied to your production. Your only value is in buying and producing. How many shitty things happen in the world and the explanation is "sorry it's just business"? Yes, the business of making a profit and seeking money. Since the beginning of civilization there has been bartering. I understand the value of offering a skill to your community but I would like to move past the idea of money.
This is how it always goes in these kinds of discussions: Person A: "I hate money! We should do away with it!" Person B: "OK, what would be your alternative to exchanging goods & services?" Person A: *blank stare*
True. Ironically, there are rich people that are miserable and quite unhappy, which I find amazing. I know just how to change their outlook on life, though:
Gold hasn’t backed US currency in a good while, slowly delinking starting in 1933 and fully severing it in 1971. We didn’t have enough reserves (the real reason the Fed has its name) of gold or silver to back our paper, internationally, should holders of the dollar call it in for its metal equivalent. I dislike exploitation in the name of money, and I finally started finding some peace with working in the monetary system after reading “Your Money or Your Life” by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin. The relationship will never be comfortable, but I can work with and leverage money/credit/capital to useful ends. I go back and forth on bartering labor. I’ve been burned too many times.
