exactly the kind of people I'm talkin about, red. complaining without thinking of a solution to their misery, always being negative and pissy, and bringing up bad news. I hate bad news, and anything newsworthy is bad news these days. who would talk about someone getting raped or murdered at dinner? gobshite is such a great expression, by the way.
wow....thats pretty petty! i wish i could give you an award for it its ok, i used to like you until i found out you like big cities. i guess i like seattle because its boring, to an extent. i mean, i dont like many cities in general. in fact, i pretty much hate cities. a nice quiet town is a good thing. and seattle doesnt have a huge black population, but there are a good number of asian folks there. its not all just white people... but whatever. i like the restaraunts, almost all the people i've met on my visits out there were friendly, i like the scenery, and i like that no one seems to give a rats ass if i smoke pot almost anywhere.
To make it even worse, it was his birthday and he's just signed a new contract to stay here for another year. I don't like stereotyping much either but that's 3 outta 3 on meeting male gobshites from Finland.
ok, the cold summers and yuppies and meth are major drawbacks, i'll grant you that. i couldnt care less what ethnicities are there though, really. last time i went there was for five days last summer, at the end of june (last week of june, i missed comfest and wasn't at all sorry) at the end of june it was in the 60s all week! i was dressing in layers, shivering at night. the native folks were walking around in shorts and tshirts.... but then again, it doesnt get as cold during the winter, so there are just fewer extremes. course i could never really, really like someplace where its NEVER hot.
I've been thinking about it too. I don't just dislike emigrants but also lots of travellers. Check out this quote from an article about a boat-trip down the Mekong. "My fellow boaters and I have stuffed the vessel with enough baguette sandwiches, Pringles, and water bottles to last us days. Also aboard are every model of ipod, ipod nano, and mp3 player possible, six copies of The DaVinci Code (in six different languages), and two dozen Lonely Planet books. Armed and ready, we set off down the river." Why fucking bother?
theres my Westerville North Warrior the winters suck there too though, 45 degrees and pissy rain there are a few nice things about the place for sure, but they are still a bunch of bitches
i love the heat honestly. i would like to live in the keys i think. i dunno, though. the northwest is very alluring to me. and i like a nice low key place (sorry, unintentional pun) i'm thinking oregon might be a cool place to visit. but i dont mind the rain at all, i just mind the cold, and especially snow and ice. snow and ice are my mortal enemies
and yeah, i dont get the need to bring all the ipods and shit. i could see having one. its a convenient way to bring lots of music with you. but in that situation i'd prefer not to listen to music anyway. to me an ipod is mostly just useful for breaks at work or between class or something. if i'm outside i'd rather listen to the outside in most cases.
It's nice on extremely long bus journeys to sometimes have some music or a book to bury yourself into for a while but I think if you're taking a riverboat ride down the Mekong, your main concern should not be how to kill the time. I actually like taking in my surroundings, including the sounds, while I'm travelling. It's all part of the experience.
I had looked at those two terms as opposite ends of the same process. To immigrate into one country a body must emigrate from another -no?
yep an emmigrant is also an immigrant. the word chosen is based on who is using it to describe the person.
True. But when I lived in Ireland, I didn't dislike immigrants. And i suppose that technically the emigrants that I'm referring to now are immigrants to Thailand, but as I'm not a Thai national, I didn't think it was appropriate for me to address them as immigrants. Another factor is that immigrant bashing is considered quite racist whereas it seems that I can hate on emigrants for a while and not get the race card thrown at me, or so it seems. Words are amazing.
