because i've been that poor and that that pissed. i've lived on donated tomato soup and hand-me-downs and free sunday sandwiches at the local church. i really don't know how i would respond. but these people in NO were failed by EVERY LEVEL of their government, not just federal, my dad sent me this: Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00 'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'...
The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'... In other words : Take your car if you have one. If you dont, we'll pay for you to get out. How were they failed? They were given a free way out 48 hours before Katrina landed, and they didn't go. Was the government supposed to force them to evacuate?
ummm, do you mean hurricane? Im not a fan of Bush, but America isn't the richest country on Earth, last I checked we were in debt. But I do hear ya, the national guard should be over here, helping the Katrina victims. Thats what the national guard is for!!! Not fighting in Iraq. I know a national guardswoman who just got back from Iraq and now shes going to New Orleans.
they didn't mobilize the school busses at all. though some enterprising people DID steal some, which i think it cool. but for the most part, the school busses were left to get flooded.
They didn't mobilize the school busses probably because the regular busses weren't full. They didnt want to leave, Its their fault, get over it.
i'll allow SOME didn't want to go, but the evacuation was MANDATORY. but it is a catch .22. had those people been forcibly removed from their homes, and the damage wasn't that bad, THAT policy would be called racist, too, and it woulda been ALL BUSH'S FAULT.
no i'm not. i've stated from the get-go here that i don't think any one person is to blame. there's a WHOLE LOTTA people who fucked up. i just get extremely pissed off at the partisan finger-pointing. perhaps that's what's confusing you?
No, you are confused because you dont understand sarcasm. My comment about forcing people out at gun point was sarcasm. You see, most of the people who stayed stayed because they didnt want to leave, and it seems you think they were denied evacuation facilities.
Who builds a city below sea level near large bodies and rivers of water? They need to take the first blame, everyone else just followed in their fucked up footsteps.
why does the blame have to lie at one person's door? that's just stupid. if you're going to blame someone, blame the poor planners in the region, blame the bureaucracies for not getting shit done. there's legions of white people not getting any help, either, so you can stuff that, too. i'm not so stupid as to think racism doesn't exist, but i'm not so paranoid as to believe that the only reason they didn't get help was because they were black.
sarcasm is only understood when well delivered, i've noticed. i'm pissed because people are blaming bush for these people not being evacuated. i'm pissed because the mayor didn't enforce the mandatory evacuation (which woulda used a LOT more busses) and MUCH BETTER PLANNING i'm pissed because everyone wants to play the race card, when the fact is that there were legions of people and agencies gearing up for the rescue efforts but shit went all to hell, the tragedy is spread over THREE STATES, not just the poor black neighborhoods in NO. i'm pissed because the national gaurdsmen are in an entirely different country, which, last i checked, wasn't really the job of the national gaurdsmen. there's just WAY TOO MUCH SHIT to blame on one person, bush's war policies have definitely left us in the lurch, but it was only the extreme arrogance of everyone else that led to the pitifully poor planning and poor response. blaming one person doesn't get this shit solved. it just shoves it right back under the rug.
now that you've made yourself clear. I agree with you. However, being pissed is not a stance I can take, as it is generally more destructive than keeping a clear head. Maybe I was confused by your emotion.
meh. lol. my pissed is really a work for "fucking irritated." people piss me off, can't help it, because people a re always looking for someone to blame. the police DID have the authority to enforce evacuations from the city, but they didn't do it, for the obvious reason that they would be shown as "forcing poor black citizens at gunpoint to leave their homes." it's just too touchy a subject for anyone to want to take control of.

bull. you're the one clinging to your favorite rage-inducing illusions about human nature. anyhoo, for the more reasonable, here's a good article that more properly elucidates my point. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4216508.stm
i agree, that gw or his cronies heading up the commission would be crap. however, this is a natural disaster covering THREE STATES. you know what? there's SCADS of minorities over there, too. whatever dubya's faults, he's not the only man dealing with this. in FACT, the first person to look at would be the ever so black mayor of NO, who didn't do his job. second would be the state officials who didn't do THEIR jobs. fema got tangled up in their own red tape, trying to manage a catastophe of a size they've never experienced. it's entirely possible that dubya just expected people to do their stupid jobs.
a president that can at the drop of a hat send people off to war to die yet take forever to give aid to his own people within his own country, I really hate using this word but George W. Bush is a real ****.
hey, my **** totally protests that. and once again: the first response is supposed to be from the state and locals. BLAME THEM FIRST. THEN blame bush.
