why do people always suggest that you move out of the country if you don't like the laws? why not just change legislation instead? we have the power to do this by organizing...if only people would get off their asses and repeal current bans on smoking. it was mentioned earlier in the thread that the poor bartenders who don't want to inhale secondhand smoke and the poor poor bar patrons who may not smoke might get smell it. shouldn't it be for the individual establishment to decide? if you don't like smoke, don't eat/drink/work at an establishment that allows smoking. it's that simple. but by making things illegal the government has an opportunity to charge money in fines for breaking these laws. the government limits more and more of our individual liberties each year. im sure most pro-cannabis peeps would agree that we don't need a nanny state telling us more of what we are and are not allowed to do in our places of business and with our own bodies. OR cut unnecessary government spending? rather than make us pay more for an inevitable recession?:cheers2:
The whole basis for the ban from bars was started in Ca. because of the employee Health rights? They need to be healthy to sling the booze? It's totally bullshit, why are they any better than another other worker? So I worked in a factory and had welders . gassing me out and that's okay. I have run a cnc laser cutter and vaporized steel and aluminum .. nasty machine... but heaven forbid I smoke a cig next to the machine... I have to step outside for that??? If they are going to pull that kind of shit then they need to do it across the board, for everyone... not just the select few. OSHA is a joke.
the number of smokers vs nonsmokers is declining every year, and thus the chance of getting that law changed diminishes more every year. basically: SHITS NOT GOING TO CHANGE. and instead of waiting around for an eternity bitching about it people (ESPECIALLY in this country) have the right to move to wherever they please, which if this is affecting you that much you may want to consider this option. with any government comes unnecessary spending, and is therefore something that is also highly unlikely to change. if you don't like this... well you're pretty much out of luck unless you find the funds to purchase your own private island... which is still probably owned by some country but hey it's better than living on the main land :cheers2:
if you don't like not smoking, then stay at home and smoke away. what about my individual liberty to go to a bar or restaurant and enjoy myself without being subjected to other peoples' nasty habit?
i would love to discuss this issue with an informed individual but considering the forum and average age of posters that is unlikelly... oh and i agree with horse. it's just a sin tax. and the reason people aren't smoking as much is because the prices keep going up and it is being banned from practically every place. ive noticed more and more people who used to smoke quality cigs are now smoking prison cigs (roll-your-owns) lol
by the same token, if you don't like smokers in the bar, why not stay at home and drink away? rather than the government stepping in and telling us how to live our lives? :cheers2: i have seen smoking bars as well as nonsmoking bars. why not just go to a nonsmoking establishment?
cuz the bar is made for DRINKING not smoking. if you wanna smoke socially go to a cigar bar or something.
average age of posters... lets see you're 21 right? that makes you about 4 years older than me considering i'll be 17 in a month. 4 years is shit, stop acting like you're all high and mighty and ACTUALLY i think the reason people have generally stopped smoking is not because of high prices but rather because we have become more educated about the long term effects. has it or has it not been proved that smoking causes a number of diseases and cancers? i'm pretty sure that keeps most people away, and the prices are just the icing on the cake. and also, people who roll their own cigs are often better off because they don't have as many toxic chemicals as commercial cigs do.
oh i didnt realize that patrons made the rules not the bar OWNER who should decide what sort of bar they want to run. if you were the owner of a business would you like the government telling what you can and can not allow in your own store? the real issue is the government putting their nose where it shouldn't be and masking the issue with 'protecting' the poor bar patrons. ive been to a few bars (including metal bars lol) where they request that you go outside to the patio to smoke for respect of the other patrons. it should be at the discretion of the owner of the bar and not the government.
I ride a bicycle I don't own a car.. a gallon of gas weighs six pounds...it doesn't disappear..US daily consumption of gasoline is 390 million gallons/day.. that's over a million tons of crap everyday into the atmosphere..lot more than cigs. I work outside and I am legally entitled to a healthy work environment.. please contain your own pollution.
do you go to the bar to order a cigarette? NO! you go to order a drink. drinking has nothing to do with smoking. they don't go hand in hand. smokers think that everything goes hand in hand with a cig - driving, coffee, drinking, socializing, etc. i guess i can agree that it should be up to the owner, but my point is that i appreciate the smoking ban as a non smoker
As NP says.. it should be up to the bar owners, not the goobermint. I'd like to see a fat tax... as long as there is all the frenzy for sin taxes. you get scanned at the market and if your BMI is high you pay more.. less you get a discount. Why should I have to have higher medical insurance rates because people are too lazy to get off their dead asses and get some exercise
you seem bitter about other people's habits. and i am a nonsmoker myself. i mean, i'll have a camel wide every once in a while (when im drinking of course) and as an american citizen in favor of individual's rights, i am opposed to a ban on any legal substance in order to collect revenue from fines. we can agree to disagree i suppose. so instead of arguing with you any further i will post smilies in a lighthearted fashion: :hat:iggy: :cheers2:
i also agree with the fat tax, however BMI would not be an accurate way to measure this because some people just have a lot of muscle.
well putting them in a pool of water and seeing how well they float... just isn't practical.. and it's so reminiscent of the inquisitions...
for the sake of your e-popularity maybe it's best not to mention this in the stoner's forum lol:cheers2:
hahahahahahha my legs sink right to the bottom... would i be safe? there has to be a way to do body fat percentage... they do it on that celebrity weight thing on vh1. anyone in the "obese" range would NOT be allowed to purchase shitty food and anyone in the "almost obese" range would be heavily taxed on shitty food. i think it's perfect, but hey i have a BMI of 19 so i wouldn't be affected LOL
