bars are for drinking, not smoking. just because you drink doesn't mean you smoke. the few bars in my hometown still allow smoking though. it's very obvious so i guess the cops don't care? my town is pretty weird
Im a smoker.......wish i would have never started but i did........as far as prices go it's $7-9 for a pack of Camel lights depending on what store you go to. I don't mind the ban from restaurants, even being a smoker i can't stand the smell of cigs or smoke in my face when im eating. Im not even going to go into a rant about the bars tho.......IMO it's pretty fucked that ya can't smoke in pretty much any bar anymore....i'll leave it at that. Just don't think it's right what they are doing...........if they are going to raise taxes on cigs why not do it for alcohol and pharmicuticals too............it's just not right to pick on one group of people.......isn't that something we all learned in grade school? stoned and rambling........
Technically true, but the main reason for going to a bar is to socialize, right? I mean otherwise you could just drink at home. Generally, smoking goes hand in hand with drinking and socializing, which is why it's a big part of bars. Restaurants are a bit different because people there are trying to enjoy their food, and many non smokers say that in addition to smelling bad, cigarette smoke takes away from the taste of the food, in which case I would agree that it does seem a little bit selfish if your disturbing others just so you can smoke... All I'm saying is that smoking is a much bigger part of the bar culture, and taking away smoking takes away from the bar. Another interesting thing to note, is that when Kansas City passed its smoking ban last year, we kept casinos off the list. So you can't smoke in any establishment except for casinos (obviously the casinos paid alot of money to help pass the question)
in my area it's kinda opposite they banned smoking in public places, bars, casinos, etc............only places you can smoke here now are the smoke shops and CIGAR bars...
you can be plenty social without smoking. or you can go outside and be social. all the casinos around here are on indian land, so you can still smoke. you can still smoke at private clubs like the american legion, amvets, etc.\ weedwhacker, are you even 21?
when Kansas City passed its smoking ban last year, we kept casinos off the list. So you can't smoke in any establishment except for casinos would those be Indian casinos?
well i don't think the indian casinos paid a dime to keep smoking allowed. it's like private land or something like that, so they don't have to abide by all the state laws. i'm in NY, so i have no idea about the kansas city ones. how old are you weedwhacker??
I'm not too sure about the Indian Casinos, but I know the big casinos here like Island of Capris paid big bucks to get that passed... And I am 17
I am in full support of banning smoking in public indoor places. For years, doctors would smoke while performing open heart surgery, but we know enough now to understand how harmful that is. So, just because it's been that way for a long time, doesn't mean it should be that way forever. Same logic applies to women's rights, African-American rights, gay rights, etc. It's a filthy habit - but especially intrusive when in a restaurant. That shit gets into your food, and posses a serious threat to people on staff breathing in unwanted toxic garbage. In Ontario, it costs $12 to buy a pack of cigarettes - and you can't smoke indoors. Also, all of the vendors by law have to conceal the cigarettes so that kids who walk in do not see them. It's not that smokers are bad people. They're great people. But their habit is so unhealthy and disgusting for the rest of us to put up with.
Thing is, it's not just cigarettes that people light up in smoking areas either. They'll light up cigars, which are the equivalent of smoking 10 cigarettes and that stuff is stinky.
Most non smokers that I've talked to think cigars smell pretty good, actually. Kind of a sweet smell, nothing like the pungent cigarette. Still, I get your point. This thread is an excellent exchange of ideas, I encourage anyone else who has an opinion so speak up!
in my area there is a whole city pretty much dedicated to gambling............not on a rez either. That whole city is pretty much going to be screwed now because i've gotta say.....seems like 75% of the people in every casino i've been, smoke. Now they're telling 75% of their customers they cannot smoke in their casinos?!?!?!?? And basically 75% of the businesses in the city are casinos?!?!?!?? Good luck stayin afloat..........
