I had no idea Roller Derby was so popular.

Until I saw Mama's pics, I had no idea that roller derby was still around. I just searched for it in my home state...http://rockandrollergirls.com/

I used to see clips of roller derby in movies back in the seventies but I didn't know it was still popular.

How many other states have roller derby? I would search but I'm at work, posting on my phone and have limited connectivity. It takes forever to post as I have to wait for my bars to show on my phone.

 

Iowa does. We actually have a bunch of local teams. Mostly womens teams but there is a mens team as well.

there is a club house with them not far up the street from me. think they are called the steelcity rollers. they converted this four bay tire changing place into a training center. but its not really advertized to the public but they have a site http://steelcityrollerderby.org/home/

I still don't really know what Roller Derby is.I could easily google it,but I am very lazy.I'm leaving it up to my imagination.

 

Roller derby in a nut shell: Each team has 4 blockers and a jammer. The jammer's job is to pass as many blockers on the opposing team as possible, the blocker's jobs are to stop the opposing team's jammer from passing them. The jammer earns a point for her team for every opposing blocker she passes. There's a lot more to it, but that's the jist.


And yes, it's violent.
