I don't completely understand why someone would get this done. I just read that scarification is used to mark milestones in a persons life. I'm curious what the significance of the 'loveheart knuckle duster' represents to you? I'm not judging, I'm trying to understand.
yeah, i dont know the name of the skin layer or anything, but it's all completely even. All the scars go down the same depth, i just dont know how far that is haha sorry! The piercer that done it for me done it to himself, and theres a video... https://www.************/photo.php?v=10151056012832192&set=vb.660542191&type=3&theater he has videos of him doing it on other people too, might give you a better look as to how deep it is. same reason i got skulls tattooed on my legs.... cause i want to.
Really? I wonder what your reaction would be like if I shared with you my interest in having trephination done (getting a hole drilled in my skull). lynzxx, thanks for sharing. I had an interest in scarification also and this discussion helped me have a better idea of what it would be like.
Well, I think there's a difference between the interest and the actual thing. I googled trephination by the way, because I had no clue how it would appeal to people aesthetically but I only see pics of skulls with holes in it...
This isn't an aesthetic intervention, mostly for religious/mystic purposes. I'm looking for somebody to do it but it seems like this is too much to ask! (Some daring folks do it to themselves though, but not sure I'm there yet!)
Ah, I see I could have guessed myself since especially when you have hair it would be hardly visible and if it was I'd imagine you would just see a hole. I understand the hesitation, it seems dangerous on a whole other level than 'just' scar your skin!
LOL indeed! There's my brain under that, gotta know what you're doing! Scarification seems hardcore enough for me now though, I'll start with that and see if I'm willing to get to the next level!
I know the Aztek nobility (royalty and priesthood, for the most) were going under the process to improve their intelligence (though I doubt it really makes a difference) and psychic perceptions, due to the increased blood flow in the brain. It was also seen as a rite of passage for the new priest/priestess, a radical way to enter their new functions. The intelligence factor isn't a motivation for me, but the increased perceptions certainly are though!
I've read where certain tribes understood/performed actual brain surgery, which to me is understandable in it needing to be done...seeing as how hitting someone in the head as hard as you can was a main way to kill/maim someone centuries ago. Brain surgery/drilling a hole in the head could have been necessary for someone's survival. I do know they have found skulls in which this procedure was performed, and evidence to show they definitely survived the surgery. Didn't the Aztecs also regularly perform virgin/blood sacrifices?
That's right! Some archeologists think it might also have been used as an emergency surgery for someone who has been wounded to the head (and yes, they survived).
not to be a dick, but maybe drilling a hole in your skull based on the (possible) beliefs of a society that no longer exists isn't a great plan...
You're not a dick, you're concerned and I can't take it a bad way. That said, I wouldn't do it myself or let somebody with no experience or qualification do it either. I'm daring, but not stupid!
Some are easily baffled I readily admit I would be baffled too if I would be confronted with a person who walked around with a trephination though.
I have to be honest and say it baffled me too when I met such a person a few years ago... (She was doing fine btw.)
