im a barefooter also but to be fair, i think sometimes employees (especcialy store mangaers) feel the to tell people they need to wear shoes just out of paranoia of them losing there jobs in case somebody actually did cut there foot in there and tried to sue...instead of having a No Shoes policy, there should be a sign saying something like "barefeet at own risk' ....that way there coverd!

my big pet peeve is when there are NO "shirt and shoes required signs" whatsoever and they still ask you to leave...ive actually e-mailed corpate before just to make a point...they probaly have no policy written whatsoever anywhere!

I compromise when shopping at WF and wear a half-sole sandal on my foot. I am at least partially barefoot.

I guess that just goes to show you that even when a company seems all liberal and open minded there is still a suit behind a desk pulling all the strings. Its sad really

I'm a manager at a major supermarket chain and we don't have a policy against barefeet. Just last night, though, one of my clerks pointed out to me that a customer was barefoot. My response was "Cool"! I guess the clerk didn't expect that response from me because he had a confused look on his face. I then said, "Didn't you hear? Barefoot is back"! It sort of seemed like a role reversal moment.

  10. "It's more expensive" is the key. WF is not hippie, it's alternative, i.e., specialized, and WF takes its "alternativity" (Holy Christmas!) VERY seriously. "image" is everything for WF, and bare feet just do not synchronize. (TRANSLATION: Yeah, I've been kicked out, too; fuck 'em!)

Guess I'll have to try it one of these days, esp when my soles and toes are black.

Gah, this! I just got kicked out of a fucking wal mart. The old lady at the door stopped me and told me to leave saying "our floors are concrete and you could slip and fall."

I asked "what about all of the people in here wearing flip flops?"

she turned around and ignored me with a pissy look on her face. I started asking for a manager and my guy rushed me out the door before I could make a scene. Wtf, I was being polite. Well, until I left, I threw out "What you're doing is illegal discrimination." pretty loudly over my shoulder. Feel kind of bad about that.

They have no signage whatsoever that mentions shoes at any of their entrances. None. I wish I could have said more, but I don't want to get my husband in trouble. I'm not even supposed to be barefoot around the truck according to dot law or his company policy, I forget which. :bomb:

if you were to get a copy of stores like Wal-Mart's rules and guidelines, etc i almost guarrentee there is nothing whatsoever in them regarding shoes being required but that hasnt stopped ignorant Wal-Mart and Food Lion store managers(to name a few) from telling me i had to leave.

I have successfully walked around many stores in bare feet without being kicked out. However, I have also been booted out of some. Same for eating establishments. Usually the managers of restaurants and stores are nice when they explain the rules about bare feet in their restaurants or stores, but on a small number of occasions they publically chastise me(You should know better, your feet are blacker than the road, You can't stay here sir, this is a restaurant, How would you like it if you had to look at someone's dirty feet while you were eating, angrily telling me to get my feet down(black bottomed feet up on seats in full view of other diners), one lady server said to me, I wouldn't want to come in here and sit on a chair after your dirty feet have been up on it, now get them down and one time in Wall Mart, a manager yelled loud at me and said, you can't come in here with bare feet, there is food in the store and there are health codes, you need to leave right now and everyone heard. I headed for the exits and he kept yelling at me, You can't come in here in bare feet, it's against the heath codes in a very angry voice. I was publicly humiliated, left the sore red faced and with a naughty look on my face as people entering and leaving as well as the greeter at the door stared down at my bare feet. The greeter lady was shaking her head at me. That was worse experience.
