I, Frankenstein Movie Blurb by Shale January 25, 2014 This isn't your grandfather's Frankenstein. (I know I'm a grampa). While it starts out like some old Goth, Boris Karloff movie where the mad scientist Victor Frankenstein makes his spare parts monster, it soon becomes apparent that this story is a modern retelling based on a grafic novel by Kevin Grevioux, that contains supernatural entities such as demons and gargoyles. In the late 18th century Frankenstein's creation (Aaron Eckhart) is beset by demons who try to kidnap him for their master, Prince Naberius (Bill Nighy). He puts up a good fight but is rescued by gargoyles and offered sanctuary in their cathedral by Queen Leonore (Miranda Otto) who is an angel leading the gargoyles. (Yes, the same stone creatures seen watching out from the tops of cathedrals - they come alive and fly around killing demons.) Her commander is Gideon (Jai Courtney). Gideon & Gargoyles Frankenstein is a bit anti-social so he strikes out on his own, taking a couple of gargoyle blessed weapons that can dispatch demons. Next thing we know it is two hundred years later and the Frankenstein is still a loner stalking demons. Meanwhile Naberius wears a corporate suit and is known as businessman Charles Wessex. He has hired Terra Wade (Yvonne Strahovski) a scientist working on reanimating dead bodies. She is thrilled to do the research (with rats) and has no idea of Naberius' plans to make an army of dead ppl. Which, explains his interest in Victor Frankenstein and the doctor's creation and notebook. Wessex & Wade So, the rest of the movie is about Naberius and the demons trying to break the secret of Frankenstein while Leonore and the gargoyles try to prevent that. There are some fights along the way. Killing Demons And, Frankenstein gets personal with Terra who is one of the few ppl who understand his physiology and is sympathetic to his angst. Terra & Frankenstein Taking on Demons I liked the movie which indicates that I am not a movie critic. This movie was not screened in advance for critics because the ppl who made it suspected they would not like it. The aggregate reviews on Rottentomatoes gave it only a 6% fresh rating. But, if you like this kind of fantasy like I do (and 57% of audiences), it was a good way to spend a couple hours.
Oh, for those who haven't recognized the name Kevin Grevioux, the guy who did the grafic novel this movie is based on as well as the screenplay, you should know that he also acts in the movie. He is the demon Dekar, second in command after Nighy's character Naberius. Gravioux & character Dekar You will recognize him as one of the Werewolves in the Underworld movies - an enemy of Nighy's Vampire.
damn it, it just typical of employers these days not to put something like that in the job description
I hear this movie is by the Canadian, Atom Agoyen.:bobby: Nope, one listens and and hears wrong. It was some Eckhart.
I saw the preview and it looked like the typical all-CGI-no-substance-whatsoever-schlock we can expect from Hollywood these days. The last decent Frankenstein movie made was Kenneth Branagh's "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein". This new breed vampires VS werewolves, throw in an ultimate warrior Frankenstein monster kind of shit is so lame. Bring back the classical style werewolves, vampires and monsters, not this teeny bopper crap!
