62 tomorrow. All my life, I've heard that "with age comes wisdom". Well, here I am; now where the hell is it?
Piped a Marine wedding once; they were all turned out in their dress blues, and formed a sword arch for their mate. They all looked like they were fifteen years old; couldn't help but wonder if they shaved, or were old enough to drive. Couldn't help but also notice; they all wore multiple campaign ribbons, combat ribbons, and more than a few Purple Hearts.
I was feeling old as fuck following my cancer treatments but thankfully about a year after my last session I finally seem to be feeling a bit younger
Went to a drive in concert of CCR and Hendrix music near Sedro Woolly. Forgot chairs and too old and creaky to sit on a blanket outside….had to sit in the car. Remember the music was brand new.
Saw, well heard, Hendrix at the Isle of Wight in 1970. I was too far away to see anything other than a tiny stick figure. He was good though, and better than Dylan had been in 1969. He was still recovering from a bike accident he'd been in and he couldn't hold a note. It was quite a disappointment listening to this caterwauling attempt at all his old famous standards.
I’m almost 49. I don’t feel that age in my mind, maybe early 30’s. I don’t think I ‘look’ 49, and I think feeling and acting young at heart contributes to this. I actually love who I am at nearly 50.
Can you bend over and pick up things from the floor in front of you without any mechanical aids ??? Can you get up from a low armchair/settee without help ??? Can you see and read the small print on food labels without the use of a magnifying glass ??? Can you walk more than 1 mile without walking aids, without stopping to catch your breath or to ease joint pains ??? Can you RUN for a bus or train and actually manage to catch it ??? If you can answer yes to all of these darlin', you ain't old !!! In fact, at 49 you're still only middle aged !!!
Yes, I can't do any of those without help either from another person or with mechanical aids, despite being BIONIC. I have metal hips, and metal knees, but regrettably 'uncle arthur' has spread into my lower spine.
Trying to hang all those damn things on my ears….glasses, hearing aids, covid mask. Perhaps I need a hook implant on each side of my head.
I think those are my ears these days, and they hurt sometimes from all the strain... probably drooping lower each day. Almost as much as a pain in the ass as those mittens we had as a kid with strings to keep both connected.
I worked with a guy that thought his life was over on his thirtieth birthday. He told me the only thing that kept him going was Football Season. I tried to tell him there was more, but he didn't listen. I believe in trying new hobbies, learning new things, visiting new places, keeps the old mind working. I really didn't get to do much until I retired. That is when life got interesting. Just finished a book of Poetry, and trying to figure how to publish it. For TH Standing tall in emerald green as shadows creep across, a shiny rumpled coat, drawing ridges on the gloss. Epicurean’s finest sweet delight, gustatory sensation with a tickle, bursting flavor with every bite, King of nutrients, the pickle. TH loves them.
Nice to see there’s a good mixture of ages on here still! I think when I used to come on here as a teenager I was one of the youngest - now I’m mid 30s I guess about in the middle majority?! I took a summer job at a nursery and surrounded by young women 17-21 you quickly realise you definitely aren’t ‘there’ anymore; no matter how much you might think you are on the inside…* sigh*
