A report from U.S.Homeland Security's Office of the Inspector General confirms the wretched, substandard conditions in the holding facilities. Conditions at adult detention facilities pose immediate risks to health and safety, while some 50 kids under age 7 had been in custody for over two weeks, in flagrant violation of the Flores Agreement, and three of the five facilities were not providing detained children access to showers or clean clothes.

Government photos show detained migrants pleading for help
The report lends substance to similar reports by lawyers, members of congress, and Amnesty International. Inconvenient truths have a way of intruding, no matter how long we cover our eyes, close our ears, and shout fake news while paddling up that long river in Africa (De Nile).

Indifference, denial and calling anything you don't like "fake news"...I think all are considered the way to handle things nowadays.

Drawing on the anti-immigrant rhetoric and dogwhistles, I'll take a stab: if we let everyone and his dog come here, this country will soon be like the ones they're all fleeing from, cuz: (1) terrorists, drug dealers, people with diseases, and other undesirables will infiltrate the ranks of the legitimate immigrants; (2) our institutions and resources will be overburdened by folks crowding emergency rooms of hospitals, competing for jobs and housing, etc.; (3) our culture, especially our political culture, will be undermined by people from authoritarian political and religious traditions; (4) the uncontrolled influx will flood the country with potential recruits for political machines which will eventually be running the country; and (5) most obviously, if we don't have borders to defend, other countries with historic appetites for real estate acquisition will invade and take us over. Think Russia. we Chickasaws didn't do enough to control the illegals back in the day, and they ended up taking over and forcibly moving us here to Oklahoma. For a longer list, see 10 Reasons The US Needs Better Border Security Is that it, or did I leave something out? For both sides, see:Should we have open borders?

Why Do We Have Borders, Anyway?
So long as these concerns are unaddressed, our pleas with Trumpsters for sympathy for the plight of the refugees and immigrants may fall on deaf ears. I don't think we need to adopt an Open Borders policy in order to mitigate the horrors currently going on at the U.S. border.

I've realised the reason for the frequent misunderstanding between us, Asmo.
I don't mean anything I say to be a solution, in any immediate sense; more like an eventual goal for a few centuries time.
But someone's got to keep those ideas going. We all have these different perspectives and my job is to be a wildly idealistic big-picture thinker.
I'd be useless without the people who see the detail and understand the next step, so I think the reason for all these different perspectives is that together we can see the whole thing.

I favor open borders too but I agree with you that it's a few centuries away. Humanity will need to learn to cooperate rather than wage war over resources first.
But ideally I think people should be free to live and work wherever they please. Maybe we'll get there one day

So does every heroin addict on the planet. All roads lead to Rome, because when they always point their guns at you, its time to join the circus.

You cannot protect your boarders by throwing money off the tops of tall buildings. Illegals are in the country because people pay them to spend thousands to come here an mow their lawns, while white collar crime might as well be legal. The president himself might buy houses made by the same illegals he's throwing over the border. All a wall does is ensure the 1% remain the 1% and everyone else fights among themselves. The wall represents entrenched wealth, who have made it illegal to vote for Mickey Mouse.

Only Nazis who own the mass media ban photographs of people being shot or thrown into ovens, and call them "unpatriotic" and "insensitive". They would still love to be able to hide all the evidence of what happened in WWII. The Japanese were more successful in that regard. What they did to even their own women is an abomination. Never forget, but not because you don't wish you could.

Who told you that? Fox News? Actually, Republican businessmen paid them so they could provide cheap labor and depress wages. But seriously, I'd take a look at Pueblo Sin Fronteras for assisting the move. But no evidence they've promised money.
