Haha, don't you hate it when that happens, though? When you want to intellegently state your opinion but you can't get your point across eloquently enough. It's quite frustrating.

Mostly, I don't watch them. I seek out the educational or funny/family type TV shows. My 2nd aparently hidden point is one day another, intelligent species on some distant planet may pick-up and interpret our digital and satelite TV signals
and may think that we are like these images.

I'm not ashamed to admit I've watched the Brady Bunch recently! More recently than I've seen a 007 film, or an episode of Night Stalker.

Haha, I love Bond movies! I'm not into that action stuff generally at all, but these Bond ones give a great impression of cold war secret agents and well I guess I just like the format :D. I didn't really like the ones after Goldeneye though.

Haha, thanks for loving me by the way! Especially for that, rather funny, since I find it pretty difficult myself to state my opinion well, with good sentences and arguments, especially in english. I'm rarely fully satisfied when I reread my posts. I also watch and learn of the replies I fully agree with though :)

I don't think that violent tv breeds violent nature but I think it either acts as a scare tactic or just something you watch.

I don't care for it myself but I tolerate it sometimes if it's a show I like.

The debate of whether or not watching violent acts on television provokes further violence has raged since the things were invented in the late 1930's. Everyone has their own opinion, but opinions aren't really what matters ... what matters is cold, hard, objective research, not hearsay or anecdotes.

The question is ... can you demonstrate rigorously one way or another that watching violence itself begets further violence, especially among children?

The answer is yes, you can. Study after study has shown it, beyond a shred of doubt. When children are shown violent acts on television, their behavior becomes measureably more aggressive and more prone to violence. These studies have been conducted in many, many different ways, with different ages and races of children, of different socio-economic backgrounds. The results are consistent across any variable you can think of.

What's appalling is that this has been known for decades. Why the government has not acted on it is a mystery.

It is not enough to simply say .. "don't let your children watch". Yes, a parent's diligence is always the first line of defense, but as a society, we make laws to protect children, even if their parents don't. You may as well say ... "don't let your children work in sweatshops". Well, yes ... as a parent it's your responsibility to look after your children, but again, as a society we deem that underage labor is important enough that we codify protection against it into our legal system.

The debate over television violence is also somewhat analogous to the one over cigarette commercials. The government decided years ago that cigarette commercials should not be on television where children could see them. The tobacco industry was then put into the ludicrous position of claiming that their advertising did not entice people to smoke, although they continued to spend millions of dollars on it anyway.

It is a fact that violence on television triggers aggressive and violent behavior in children. This is not simply one person's opinion or hearsay. It is an objectively and rigorously demonstrated fact.

I'm not aware of similar studies with video games, but it's hard to imagine that the results would be different.

Graphic violence has NO place in television shows or for that matter movies.I think graphic anything(not counting a little female nudity)has no place either.Putting graphic violent scenes etc. in, is yet another sign that the people who make these shows have little talent,so they resort to it.--They think by doing so they're being clever or more realistic.Well it's the opposite.-----I have no problem with shows that contain non-graphic violence or action, and most of those shows are of course the older shows for example 2 great classics-- The Rifleman and Hawaii 5-0.And those are just 2 examples of many. But hey, the people in front and behind the cameras of those great older shows were very talented.--

I don't doubt it,mainly due to graphic violence.-------And I think the opposite is true when it comes to nice family shows.Nice family type shows contribute to children having good behavior and morals, even if it's only in a very small way.--I'll once again point to the older great classics like The Andy griffith Show or My Three Sons--Just 2 examples of so many of great, entertaining family type shows.-----And unfortunately they do not even come close to making shows like that anymore.
