I could apparently perform feats of magic as a little boy. I'm serious. There were many examples of this. Two come to mind now. When I visited my grandfather's house, there was this stray cat I used to like to play with. He would be hiding in the bushes of any number of houses on my grandfather's block (he after all had no permanent home). But I would do this ritual to find him. I forget some of the exact details. But it apparently worked every time! (And really, it should have worked no better than chance--think about it.) But the weirdest one involved flipping coins. I assumed that when you flipped a coin, if you did it with, say, the heads side up, it would have to come up heads. And that is exactly what happened every time I did it! Can you imagine how many times this weird phenomenon had to take place in my childhood? One time, my friend from across the street, Danny, told me I could have a fifty cent piece, if I won a coin toss. The only thing was, he could toss it as many times as he wanted. Okay, I said. And again, I made sure the coin was tossed with my side up as he did it. Again, it happened over and over again. I'm serious. I remember the event well. Danny was understandably flustered, until I explained it to him. He then explained to me why my assumptions were wrong. And the weird phenomenon essentially stopped. But again, can you imagine how many times it happened until it stopped? I'm serious. Think about it. Yeah, when I was a child, it was an uncertain and threatening world. And I think I, like many children, used rituals to gain control of it. As to why my "magic" seemed to work, I don't know. Jung talked of synchronicity. And I do still believe in God, but not much else (I don't believe in an afterlife now, for example). What do the rest of you think?:love::love::love:
Young kids are more in tune with stuff. I heard the other day about a woman who was pregnant and going on a haunted house tour, but then her baby kicked so hard she had to leave.
yes I agree....kids have vivid imaginations.... there is no such thing as magic unless you also believe in astrology then its totally real
There is totally such a thing as magic. As a kid you haven't been programmed by thoughts like the one above to lock down your imagination. Imagination is the interface initially used with vision magic. However with practice things begin to solidify and you can travel in angelic and underworld realms and make contact with beings and have real world results. If done improperly you can jack up your endocrine system at best and get fatally injured at worst. The esoteric arts takes more than just little hunches or synchronicities to make you a real magician. It takes practice and study and more practice. The single most important piece to the puzzle is mastering stillness meditation. From there you can begin to practice working with the four directions and the elements. This is where you are laying your foundations for the ability to practice real and powerful magic and without this kind of work put in you won't accomplish much. You will want a solid understanding of the kabalistic tree of life to understand the patterns of life and how magic flows. Magic is moving power from point a to b using either ritual patterns or visionary work and the assistance of spirits and beings from the land. It's real and it works but to see it and experience it for yourself you have to go after it through hard work.
As one who has a Faith in the olde ways of Lore, I do believe that Magic is a form of ability that we can all tap into. As children we are open to any and all possibilities of feat/s As we grow, the element of cynicism comes into play as those; who tell us they know better, attempt to bring in a regularity of expectancy Losing the element of possibilities to a reality of staidness of convention is I feel a sad observation of the way Life is. "Once you stop believing, then you lose the Magic" it is a credo I tell and will continue to tell my Children/Grandchildren - It works for me
Hey Billy, I see you are from England. You are in a country that is loaded with old magic in the land. I hear Dartmoor is a fantastic place to work with the land. I hope to visit a few magical locations one day. In America we just don't have the kind of magical locations that you folks have across the pond. You should really look into it if magic interests you.
Erm falsified memory of course can’t reasonably argue with personal experience but these things get blown out of proportion over time. It’s like a guy telling a story and showing the size of the fish... Add in selective memory that is people tend to remember the out of ordinary things more so then all the fails. Plus as kids we are more ready to believe in the fantastic there for some grow up with a sense of magic in their life. It has been proven scientifically that eye witness accounts cannot be trusted, the brain will fill in gaps seamlessly to arrive at a complete picture. Saying all that i have my own fantastic memories but who really knows only with records or repeatable experiments can we say something with confidence stories are just not good enough even multiple eye witnesses are no fail safe far from that.
mothman The east coast of america has the longest time of afficted belief on it. Try the high desert in the SW or further south - where the landscape itself proves that there are things we do not understand using the prevalent forms of thinking, even the indigenous of the northern part of this continent. hehe course to See, sometimes we must step outside of our accepted belief system.
who knows. answering "bullshit" is all too easy. on the other side you could have made the whole thing up in the first place so arguing is totally pointless
we all could before being brain-washed into forgetting how. its this big conspiracy called culture, which is also called raising children, that is why so many occlude their childhood, remembering how painful the loss of these abilities were.
