i can't remember which thread it was, but there was a complaint about picky eaters...

Thanks for this! I'm never heard it, but I guess it makes sense. One of my picky friends says he will never eat a salad because he was never introduced to it as a kid, and now to suddenly start eating salad would be akin to walking outside and picking the leaves off of the trees and eating them (which sounds perfectly normal to me, but I understand why it would seem a little weird to normal people).
I always have a little pang of sympathy and frustration for those people, though. I sit and watch Bizarre Foods and drool over most things (I'll admit some even I won't touch, though) while some people don't even want to know what a hot, steamed and buttered clam tastes like because "fish is gross." :banghead:

Oh well. More for me, I guess.

 

for YEARS dave was simply meat, potatoes, ice berg lettuce and green beans guy. it was so freaking irritating. now in the past couple years he's branched out in all kinds of directions. though he's a bit preoccupied with asparagus and blue cheese.

well, my likings and dislikings had changed very much while I grew up. And they are still changing. The only thing that is constant over the years is my hate for fish fingers ;-). I can't eat this beasties. On the other hand people from different cultures have different eating habits. Several years ago we had an exchange student from Taiwan (IIRC). He now thinks we are all barbarians, because we have no problem eating pigeons ;-).

Tastes like chicken . In the area where I live they have a specialty called 'suuri kuddle'. Well, basically it's the first stomach of a cow. I have two words for the lovers of this meal: no, thanks . It's tasty, that's true. But I don't like the texture of this meat. Chewing on a villous chunk of a cow's stomach is eek for me . But I like the combination of fruit and meat, which other people might find awkward (Wrap bacon around a plume, grill, eat). Fish is yummy, too, as long as you can see that you are eating fish.

well, cooking a 'real' meal for one person is boring and time consuming, so I often end with choosing a steak or pasta etc.

Dave might have heard that asparagus is supposed to strengthen, uhm, his own asparagus .

My oldest son is a very picky eater. He's in a faze where he will only eat ramen noodles and bananas. I totally slip all kinds of shit in his milk.

 

i have one daughter that won't eat peanut butter, another that won't eat jelly. they both stare in HORROR at PB&J sammiches. so one has peanut butter, one has jelly, and together it would make a whole sammich.

 

I never liked PB & J together...it's just gross.

 

I feel sorry for picky eaters, they dont know what they're missing out on. I loooove food. It gives me great pleasure. I love trying new restaurants and cooking new dishes at home.
