Over two centuries ago, Rousseau told us that all humans are free but everywhere they are in chains. Seems to be the same today, at least in the area of spirituality and religion. Humans have the potential for spiritual freedom, but everywhere they are shackled by the canned spirituality of churches.

Why do people have to call their so called creator GOD? Why can't it be called the IS? NO one truely knows how the universe was created, and if there is a god, I'm sure the IS doesn't want to be worshipped in a church or cathedral.

well, they don't have to. I'm pretty sure if there is a god, it probably doesn't care one way or the other what you call it. After all, a name is given to identify individuality, but a god is not one thing, but rather all things or many. I could probably identify a god by calling him grapes and fish and still be correct.

If you truly want to "name" a christian God, the original Hebrew name for God was Yahweh*(sp?), and every aspect of today's christian God was based on this figure.

Actually, the name of God was soemthing not to be pronounced in ordinary situations. JHVH was the unpronounceable designation, rendered "Yahweh".

Actually, the name of God was something not to be pronounced in ordinary situations. JHVH was the unpronounceable designation, rendered "Yahweh". That tended to be used in Judea, but in the kingdom of Israel, Elohim was more often used. That also was not a name but a descriptor.

Aaah! That one depends if you want to explain How life occured?, or explain why there is Life in the common things we see and reason over in their considerate explanations For 'Living Sensations'.

We ask the question because we know it, or because we want to understand it better again.

You're right. Up-to-date rendering from Hebrew to English uses "Y" instead of the older "J". It used to be that English-speakers called God "Jehovah", hence the "Jehovah's Witnesses". But then somebody decided "Y" (for Yahweh)was closer to the Hebrew--kinda like Peking becoming Bejing. But "J" lingers on in some contexts, as in the J, E, and P authorship of the Torah--"J" referring to the south Hebrew tradition of using "Yahweh" (YHVH or JHVH) instead of Elohim. So is that clear? (You see now why I didn't bring it up in the first place).

Some insist, tacetly, that "God" cannot exist because "God" violates their sense of the sacred.

    I think that's hilarious.
