Didn't read this entire fascinating thread but...

I hope most are intelligent enough to realize that a $50 electric drill is not something on which you want to risk your health and safety..

Such a drill could easily go defective and begin to run at full speed with no way to stop it.
The electronics which control the drill are cheap mass-produced parts which can go bad at any moment, in such way that the drill runs at full speed uncontrollably.
