we have to do the same at our school. ours is 50 hours of manditory volunteer work (ha, yeah isn't that a contridiction.) every summer untill we graduate. i don't really care about doing the work but i do think it's terrible that we have to do this while other schools don't. and it definently shouldn't be forced on us.
The school boards are part of the community and locally elected. That's why they want you to do community service so you'll learn how all this works. And perhaps care about it.
Wow, there are biggers issues out there that should be protested...this hardly seems like something you should protest at all! I think it sounds like a great opportunity to learn and experience and get a little "real life" under your belt before you go out into the "real world"... I wish my school would have required something like this...I think it would have opened a lot of students' eyes to new ideas and new things in general.
But hey go ahead and protest, perhaps your protest efforts will be taken into account for your community service, how would you feel about that?
Community service is a good thing. But, like everything else, it's always best when it's NOT shoved down your throat. That's the biggest problem here.. lack of freedom in schools.
Required community service is...wrong o.o Its strange. Good deeds are to be done simply out of the love in ones heart, not for the want of gold in ones pocket >.<
I had to do 40 hours in order to graduate, somehow I managed. But yeah you have a four year span to do 60 hours its not that bad thats 15 hours per year. I mean its the least you could do for your community and maybe it does suck but protesting it wont solve anything.
If thats what they require for you to graduate than just do it. It will help the community anyways, and im sure it wont be that bad. it may be a good experience for you. its part of life to have to do things you dont want in order to succeed.
If you are willing to stand up and protest against the requirement, don't do it. Stand your ground. Find a job without it, that would probably start a whole new trend. Have the strength to do that? Or you want someone else to question the requirements?
Will that eliminate the need to provide public service? Or is that the point at which they don't seek to care?
The school should have no say in what you do in your free time. I find it outrageous that a school can force a student to do that. I mean community service would be good for you and look nice on your college resume but shouldn't be mandatory for graduation.
well try it out first. if everything sucks, then talk to some authority (no matter how stupid they may be) and see if you can get out of it. ;-)
why wouldn't you want to help the community? if my school made me do that i wouldn't mind because peoplerarely do community service unless they are forced. i think it's sort of sad that people need to be forced to help their own community. (im not trying to sound rude sorry if i did)
