The Unschoolers Handbook is a good resource. Also anything by Holt will give you good background information. I hope you can find a good support group. Or start one. The group that I just lucked into is great. They have meetings in a church but they were very adament that they were not based on any religion. I love it. I found them through Yahoo. And to the person who said to put your kids in school and take a class. My son is all the class I need. Being with him and knowing that he is getting the best education possible without all the racist and sexist grabage he was getting in day care is what I need. Putting my child first is what's best for me. Kathi
Since you are considering home schooling I highly recomend the Phonics Factory as a former tracher. The website is http://www.angelfire.com/hero/phonicsfactory
phonics, waldorf, montessori, etc, those dp work great for some kids, but not for all of them. The most important thing you need to remember is to do what works for your kid, not just because someone else said it was great, nor should you avoid somethign just because someone said it sucked. Until you know how your child learns best, a mixed approach combining lots of different ideas would probably be most appropriate.
i homeschool my children and it works fine. we are lucky enough to have a group thats not religious but my kids also go to dance class and play soccer. we have playtime with friends that are in school in the afternoon and weekends. there are lots of options. dont let that be the reason not to homeschool
