I've seen what that kind of job does to people. It's never good, saying from experience. My Dad is in the DEA. When people ask me what he does, I usually make something up. There's got to be a mistake. I can't actually be reated to the guy. I am definitely not proud of his job. It's more along the lines of embarrassing. I made the mistake of calling him a Dead-head harrasser under my breath, and he tried to interrogate me into telling him what I said. I lied and said I called him an ass. Thatnk God that's over.
Why be ashamed of your father? Perhaps he loves/is proud of his job. Not all DEA people are like the ones you heard about. You also have to look at it another way - it's that job that gives you a home, food, and clothing. I wouldn't be too unappreciative.
I don't mean to be, I just am. I am humiliated. He seems like the exact kind of person who would storm a peaceful gathering of fellowhsip like a Grateful Dead concert and cause trouble. Think about it: who was causing trouble, rioting, etc.? The DEA. The thing was perfectly decent until they showed up. People got hurt unecissarily. He really is a grouchy angry person who acts 20 years older than he actually is. Before his DEA and police years, he was the lead singer/keyboardist in a rock band that did a cover of Free Bird, and during the guitar solo he would drink as much beer as he could. Information obtained from mom. I never would've guessed he was cool once. He used to wear sashes as belts, bandanas Axl Rose style, and this awesome hat with a Deep Purple patch on the front. Now he's just lame. The DEA made him the way he is now.
Actually, fatherhood could have done that. He might be trying to be a good example for you. A father that is irresponsible is a poor father. He loved you so he grew up. Probably went to an extreme, but no doubt for his love of his children. Talk to him sometime about his younger years, you might be able to find something in common. No doubt he wishes he could be your age again, 'cause he sounds like he was similar to you. It would be a good way to connect. Overlook his job, it isn't who he is - just what he does.
thats not really a lame excuse. yea the drug laws suck but its against the law so they are just doing their job. but thats the one with Steve-O. hes funny man. he said he set up a burger stand at a vegetarian conventian. lol i would have laughed real hard if i saw that.
why do you hate the DEA so much? you said you dont even do drugs. in case you diddnt know, DEA stands for Drug Enforcment Agency. so unless you are a druggie, then you have no real reason to be so angry at them.
He doesn't like to talk about it :/ He won't even let me listen to his old tapes of his bands. Heck, he won't even tell me what his songs were called. Maybe so... Because of how they treated the Dead-heads. I don't think what they were doing was necissarily wrong, being totally honest. They had acid... big deal. I don't see why the DEA behaved the way it did. It's just a little dumb.
Ha that show...My Coolest Years...Really was life THAT stearotypical in the 80s? Anyway. Yeah its a shame for those Grateful Dead fans. The Cops are just doing job though. I think that they use brute force to much. But hey that shows that they are human. Humans who have wepons. Never a good thing.
Well, I stand by my earlier contention that we don't know what transpired at that concert. An officer could have been threatened and they were making sure that they weren't a danger to others. Not all dead-heads are peaceful. There are always those few bad apples that cause trouble. In both groups of people.
you seem pretty angry alot. don't get angry at me for saying that. but yeah, i mean it sucks that you'll get in trouble for having even marijuana in this country but blah
As a cop you can't choose to enforce some laws and not others. This would lead to a kind of civil deterioration. Oh and they were hurting themselves and may have become a danger to others.
Compassion and pity will soon replace anger the sooner we observe that obedience to the authority of this Police-State is NOT about bad or evil motives. Rather, it is simply deep seated anal-retentive impulses motivated by neurotic fear-driven anal preoccupations. For example: Sado-masochism is a homo-erotic impulse, and the sado-masochism of the Police and Military is simply a means by which the most latently homosexual can more effectively express themselves. This psycho-dynamic is the root of the neurotic Police-State we call Hierarchical-Civilization, and the momentum of its coersive behavioral patterns has been spreading for 500 generations. Thus the war on psycho-active drugs. Because psycho-active drugs break-down the spell of delusions and denials cast by our Ego, but the psycho-pathic condition must prevent any escape from the everyday psychosis of delusion and denial we call everyday normality. Like all pathology, psycho-pathology is a disease, NOT a moral weakness. And once we see the desperate mental illness behind the Police State of our current Human-Condition, then, under these difficult circumstances, we can see each other with greater compassion and understanding, and begin to appreciate all the more those precious acts of kindness and generousity that the human-spirit can still manage to manifest.
Police are police because arresting people makes them feel powerful. I think power-hunger is what it is.
My father is a police officer because its one of a few jobs that 20 years of Army grunt work qualified him for. Stop speaking about things you know nothing of.
Um, to help others? Perhaps not all their motives are altruistic, but their main objective is to help others.
