Delphinium i just wanted to thankyou for this thread, you inspired me!! Yesterday i went up to the only teacher at my kid's school that had her class sing about the baby Jesus and thanked her for doing that, her face lit up! I just told her how i appreciated her bringing the true meaning of CHristmas on to the stage. Last year's concert made no mention of Jesus, i listened closely for it. So anyways, i felt great for thanking her and she felt great for being thanked. Spread the love, sista
My own view on this is that there should be religous education in schools, as long as it's teaching about ALL religions (or at least most)... I don't have a problem with a school teaching my kids (if i ever have any) about why christians celebrate christmas (what they believe, and how they came about to believe it)... as long as it's explained that other religions also have diffrent festivals at around the same time, and what they are all about. It's a case of, rather than saying "jesus was born in a manger" they need to say "christians BELIEVE that jesus was born in a manger" see the diffrence? (I support the seperation of church and state, espically church and school.. but i'm not against my kids learning about religion - all religion).
translation--->another translsation-----> Another translsation... To the people that believe the bible is the direct word of god, i feel sorry for you. I respect that it's your opinion, and you're free to have it... but you are being spoonfed...
you feel sorry for us, and we feel sorry for you too. I respect that it's your opinion that you don't believe the BIble is the direct word of God, and you're free to have it too, but you are missing out on the deepest soulfood that is out there for your ever-hungry heart.
But my soul is fine... I feel great... I've not felt this great in a very long time...... My soul does not demand that I feed it mythology and lies, to pull the wool over my eyes... my soul demands KNOWLEDGE and INFORMATION!!! and I'm getting tons of it.. and I'm feeling GREAT!!! OK, if someone feels better because they believe they are being protected by god, then that's fine.. and who am I to say it's wrong... but that's not me, nor what I want... I'm happy with what I've got, and indeed feel very lucky that I have got what I've got.
that is cool! people are getting all excited about christmas and theyre missing the best ingredient .......jesus christ! its liek going to KFC and asking fro a chicken fillet burger and getting lettuce and mayonaise and getting excited about that when the main ingredient is missing.
i feel ahppy fro her and her children because she is an exelent mother and her kids are full of joy and love
and theyre getting a belief stuffed into them, much like i and many others have. while i was lucky to find my own path many others go down a track of believing something whether they really do or not. in my school i was punished if i acted in anyway against christianity. but it was a christian school.. but no public school should teach a particular religion IMO. teaching everyone a spectrum of different religions and what theyve done/gone through over history is a very good idea, but i strongly disagree with schools cramming a faith into children. millions of people are forced to believe a particular, christian or not, and many at a very impressionable age. i was 8 when it was started on me, and at that age you are very impressionable and your teachers are people who youre supose to trust and believe. for them to tell their beliefs to children and tell them its fact is just brainwashing. many people are good christians for all the right reasons, by the sounds of it im sure you are too. while i definately disagree with a lot of things you say or the way you say it, it definately sounds like youve come to your beliefs yourself. but many people dont, and really have no say in their beliefs until its too late. if it wasnt for my family problems and depression, and my natural way of questioning nearly everything, chances are i would have blindly followed what they fed me. i know a few of my former friends from that school are still quite christian, even though a few of them are a very bad description of one.. i just think its wrong for children to be taught by (especially public) schools that a belief is fact... in my perfect world i think religion should be kept seperate from children until an age when they could comprehend it properly.. but that would cause many a problem..
yeah i agree you should not cram a religion into children, but you should teach them,i dont believe that people can force a religion on somebody, the kid makes up theyre own mind in the future anyways, wen i went to school i was taught about many different religions and i found all the stories very interesting,i was relaly fascinated by greek mythology as a kid, nobody ever forced a religion onto me,i was told the stories of jesus from a young age,but i was never forced or had it crammed into me! i dont believe that a parents beliefs can always determine the childs beliefs anyways,my friend suhail, his parents are muslim and he discovered jesus for himself. i dont believe in child baptism as i dont belive that is biblical, nowhere in the bible does it say a child should be baptised, only dedicated(two parents commiting to take care of the child with godly morals and thanking god for its life) baptism is full emertion under water wen somebody has come to theyre own understanding of jesus, christining is a contradiction in itself as the bible states if anyone is to be baptised,it is from head to toe. i agree that the principles should be taught but at the same time the child sould have a choice, learn about god and jesus because they want to.
I am so glad to hear that someone else understands Baptism. So many people, sadly, do not understand the core of it. Teaching yes, cramming no. Suffocating anyone will only lead to problems. I would certainly not advise parents to tell their young children, "Ok kids, we are all going to go pray for two hours in quiet room." However, it is important for a Christian to teach their children about Christ. I know some pretty remarkable youngsters who have a love of God and they are not yet in their teens. Several of them have been baptized by their own choice and a few of them have the Holy Spirit already.
same here! my church has a lot of very young powerful young kids, one of them named tammy i ahve known since she was 8 and she has alway desired to become a preacher, had dreams and visions about it aswell, she is such an awesome young girl, she is 14 now,and im so proud of her,she really has an understanding of god,not just becasue of the teaching of her parents but the time she spends with god by choice! thanks for the comment epithany,im glad somebody agrees aswell, alot of people misunderstand what im trying to put across wen i talk about baptism
