Now, now now...ignorance is not a bad thing nescecarily...now apthy would be bad...but its not my place to judge him... And technically, God did not give us knoledge, man disobeyed God and ate fruit from the tree of knoledge...but i don't beleive in original sin so its all good...
We had religious instruction when I was in primary school (age 5-10). The lady was mean. I drew a burning bush and a love heart and the teacher (old women came in, not our regular teachers) started being really mean to me and telling me there was no love around at the time. I was sad, (especially cause I kept wanting to correct her and held off so she wouldn't feel bad) Then she used the whiteboard duster to clean the blackboard, so it didn't work. I felt so smart that day . I don't think it affected any of us kids too much. One of our teachers openly called it "ridiculous interruption" rather than religious instruction. I think it's great that we're focussing on santa claus and the spirit of giving and trees and presents. Reclaim christmas for the pagans! yayyyyyyyy! Christmas for zoe!!! But maybe a little religious instruction is necessary. Not christian, just general knowledge on major religions and their differences. It helped me a lot as a little kid (and still helps now). Either that or make religious holidays universal, so we all celebrate them and thus know about them. That would be grand, there'd be at least a holiday a month. Make religious things universal, don't take universal things and make them soley religious (like they tried with christmas). Santa claus is universal. It's only my pride and stubborness that stop me from celebrating christmas with everyone else- I don't see it as christian anymore. A bit of a badly put together ramble for ya.
You've quite nicely summed up the main preresiquite to becoming a christian- acceptance of ignorance. Move over people- reality is coming through!
No,all faiths are not the same. Christianity is unique in that it states that only through the shed blood of Christ is there the forgiveness of sins. The Bible teaches that without Jesus Christ all other teachings are vain and will lead to spiritual destruction. Also, the Bible is the only book that has a full trail of completely fulfilled prophecies considering the person of Jesus Christ. No other religion can compare. The Bible proves itself by its fulfilled prophecies and it gives a full accounting of the future of this world. Which can be demonstrated in todays news headlines.
If being a Christian is ignorant, how come they know the prophecies and you don't? WHY IS IT THAT THEY CAN'T OPEN THAT EAST GATE IN JERUSALEM???
Hell, they can, 's called a 'Rocket Launcher'.:X An, anyways, if it weren't fer a guy called Jesus bein about, and the rise of Christianity, there wouldn't be any Christmas. There'd prolly be some pagan holiday, but 's prolly all dancing and worshipin a tree, no presents or anythin.
are you equating faith to acceptance of ignorance? and joe, i don't know you, but i adore you and your comments.
Blind faith that flies in the face of empirical reality? -yes. But it was not I who praised ignorance. It was the holier-than-thou-biblical literalist. Chirst may be the source of philosophy WITHOUT the need to fight the advance of knowledge.
quote> Not christian, just general knowledge on major religions and their differences I agree with you here, there should be comparitive religion classes offered, and indeed there are at the college level. I have no problem with that whatsoever. What I do have a problem with is a teacher teaching christianity as fact in a public school. Only christian fascists like epiphany, jesusdied4u, or the starter of this thread could be for that. It is completely alienating and disrepectful to anyone who does not follow the christian religion, and that is generally a significant amount of people. send the brats to christian school if you want them to learn chritianity, or to church, its outrageous that poeple could be happy about this being taught in public school...but it doesn't surprise me.
Ah, but I do know of prophecies. Any student of religious enginnering can write prophecies; it's been demonstrated before on this site. And did you not make a statement endorsing ignorance? What do you know of the nature of the Universe? The last part of your statement is non-sensical. Don't mistake your ignorance for proof that any wild assumption you care to make is factual.
Erm, nope. Once ensuring that christmas was universally accepted across England as jesus' birthday, not the pagan holiday, puritans tried to remove all pagan elements of it and just have worshipping on that day (early 1600s). No trees, presents, drunkenness, decorations. If you picture a dining room, with a tree, presents, christmas dinner, streamers etc on it, remove everything except for the table and chairs, and you have the christian christmas. The puritans failed miserably, of course. seamonster66, you're brilliant, I have exactly the same view as you. Maybe if some people on here got a good general religious education, not a christian 'fact-based' one, they'd be a bit more open to discussion.
Why would anyone want to shirk the responsibility for their own sins? Pass it off on Mary Magdalene's hubby...he'll take the blame. If he was real, and asked me to let him take the fall for my wrongs, I would say no way. Even he could not convince me to pass the buck, I take the blame, I did it, and it sounds terrible to me the way the whole bloodshed thing is told to me. I agree, that is unique, and to me, it is not a good thing, it is a detriment to the churches rep. in my books.] I like the faiths that teach love, not how to shift the blame for your own sins off yourself. Not for me.
Exactly, if i do something wrong it is not Satans corruption, it is my own greed and lust that caused it [greed and lust are the basics for all sin]... Other religions do have prophicies, before Krsna was born there was a prophecy that told of a boy that would bethe 8th born by a certin woman who would kill a certin king..the king then locked her in a prison killed all he first 7 babies but when the 8th was born the father slpped Him away and i cant really remember the erst, but Krsna then eventually killed the king... here is the link http://members.tripod.com/~srinivasp/mythology/krishna.html whatever, im done discussing here, i don't wish to be harrassed anymore for what i beleive...thank you to all Christians and non who have accepted me...
I know what you mean regarding the refusal by some to face up to the facts...I once heard this, as someone turned away from some dates we had different. I found the source of my number, and heard, "I don't have to look, I know I'm right." hard to dispute that kind of certainty.
i totally get you! i was shocked this year too when i saw the Christmas concert at my kids school! there was a song about baby jesus! i was thrilled! you have inspired me to call the teacher of that class to encourage her as well! It is not easy to be the only teacher deciding to bring attention to the Christ-child at Christmas. on a side-note... His name is in the word because he is the reason! So if we;re not celebrating Christ at Christmas, why bother celebrating at all? It's Christian holiday, people don't have to participate if it's not thier religion. that's the part i don't understand. bless you Delphenium!
Tell me the specifics of the East Gate prophecy.... and tell me what is wrong with it? The prophecy is being fulfilled in the day we live and the authors could not been able to understand this without Godly intrivention. Can you tell me the chapter and verse that proves the East Gate propjecy wrong? I am looking for specifics not vague ramblings like so many of you do on this post.
Then your not good enough to go to heaven. You cannot outway your bad with your good. You need to be perfect to enter heaven. And without the shed blood of Christ you will never be perfect. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God." -Romans 3:23
Says you, ha ha ha..........like you have the slightest clue if I will go to heaven, or even if there is one......that is hilarious. No...you're not loving enough to even sniff purgatory....the sub basements of hell fer you...You cannot outweigh your arrogant dismissal of contrary spiritual views. Hindus, atheists, Muslims, any and all good people are going to heaven, or there aint one. If it only accepts me if I agree that jesus blood washes my sins away, I will tell His Holiness, the big guy, to stuff it. You can have it. and like you will be perfect someday............. well, ya made me laugh anyway,,, thanks.
