The problem is that if you are making your plans based on the behavior of your neighbors rather than a rational assessment of your situation, you won't necessarily be making a good decision. Things may not be that bad in your area. Your neighbors may be well-informed and making a reasonable decision to stay. The problem here seems to be that you don't know if staying or leaving is a good idea. And if you stay you don't seem to be certain that you will be adequately prepared. If you call the emergency line, they should be able to advise you. Just being reassured would make it worthwhile to call. You could also check a local cable station, talk to your neighbors, and check out some of the disaster prep sites.
Well, my husband feels we should be okay. We have plenty of supplies for when the power goes out, wish we had a generator. I'm just worried. He's not as worried, so.
Some people may be comfortable making decisions based on their own intuition. Others may want to receive advice from emergency management officials. If you want to be sure you're making the right decision, I'd recommend calling the emergency line. My guess is that where you are will not be hit that hard, but if you are uncomfortable with uncertainty you may want to check.
Im not exactly sure. But I believe much power is under ground serviced to much of Florida. not only for hurricanes, but for aesthetics ..
I'm about 25 miles north of Tampa. So is your family staying home and did they board up their windows? Inverness is not far from Tampa area, and the storm looks to be tracking right up the middle/left part of the state.
I have a friend in Bradenton, which I think is a little south of Tampa if I remember correctly. She is staying and has boarded her windows. If you can find plywood it might be a worthwhile precaution
I'm thinking that too, well the news said it will not be a cat 4 like it will be when it hits Florida, it will be a cat 2, but that could still do damage. The thing is, no one is certain, to be honest. No one can say ''your windows won't blow out.'' The newscasters don't even know where it may go for sure, so, everyone seems to be guessing. We will know much more tomorrow by 11 AM, they said. There will still be time to just go to a shelter right up the road from me.
That's why on so worried. They are staying. I guess the roads are too clogged now. So, yeah, they Re boarded up and hunkered down. They have plenty of supplies. Good luck to you all and be safe! I'll just continue to stare at the glowing sky from the fire over the hills
Yea, the roads are just packed, and you could run out of gas on the road lol It's crazy. Are you on the west coast?
Yes, Southern California. Burbank is burning to the ground. But then again, so I'd the rest of the west. Mother Nature can be cruel...half the country burning, the other half flooding.
But everything is being made political now. So many in the world now have a need to be absolutely "right". Often without regard to the consequences their rightness might gin up. Simple disagreements are now seen as "dangerous" or hateful" with no middle ground. If you don't fully agree with someone, you're a "hater" or a "racist" or whatever label seems to fit at that intense moment of conflict. The really sad thing to see is how long some people hold on to their self-sainted "righteous" opinion. Even when flat facts clearly point to other possibilities. Look at the stupidity that was stirred up over Mrs. Trump's shoes. Did anyone actually think she was going to be paddling around the bayous looking for stranded flood victims? Does anyone actually think she'd be good at such a task? But still they whine and grouse over her heels as she boards a flight to Texas only to emerge upon landing wearing athletic shoes. Probably so she could encourage weary rescued Texans to run a 5K for charity. Or maybe because she's a Nazi. Don't you just love how that word is played around every corner. "Oh no, Trump ate a hotdog, those were created in Frankfurt, where the NAZIS USED TO EAT THEM!!!!! Trump's a NAZI!!!!!!!!!". It's all so childish and tiresome. So is this fake resurrection of the "KKK", a loose collection of powerless nobodies who can't assemble enough people for a successful protest. And the really exhausting thing I have seen in the last couple of years is this insistence that so much of our lives are being ruined by "white supremacy" which was a campaign slogan democrats used to use around the time they financially supported the KKK. ALL of those assholes are dead. And have been for a long time. The kooks who have adopted their mantle can't even keep a web site up. And these are the people who have antifa, communists, leftists and feminists quaking in their boots? I think not. It's all bullshit political posturing by using a propped up phony scapegoat. Seriously, who is the KKK attacking? What politicians are supporting them? And how on earth are they even in the news cycles? I swaer I see KKK or Nazi on a daily basis in the press and upon reading it's obviously just bullshit being tossed out to sell ad space. Anyway, I think the American left would endear themselves a lot more if they laid off the rhetoric and picked up a few sand bags. It might help if they didn't go around beating people up to prove how peaceful they really are. I know, I know, that's just crazy talk coming from me. I just personally think they people who go around looking for people to beat on, need therapy, in a locked facility.
We will work on securing everything in the yard, porches, and carport this weekend. I doubt the kids will have school on Monday and Tuesday.
I just heard from the local weather channel that they're encouraging people who didn't board their windows, to stay away from the windows in a hallway or bathroom, etc and put a mattress in front of you so if there's flying glass, you'll be protected. Is this really happening? Omfg. I think we're going to a shelter, this is crazy.
