I have friends, a mother, her two girls, and her parents, who were vacationing in San Juan and couldn't get a flight out before the hurricane hit. They are fine but they can't get a flight out until Tuesday. As of last night, her parents weren't even able to schedule a flight out of Puerto Rico.
Here's an update from my friend who is stranded in Puerto Rico. It's Saturday, emotions were pretty high around here yesterday. We've tried to get a flight out of here since Sunday night. We've booked flights and been cancelled four times already. Apparently Delta won't resume flights until Tuesday, but word is jetblue and American are flying. We hear it's only one or two flights going out so unsure where it's even fllying to. We would take a flight to almost anywhere at this point. We've compared stories with other guests and they are stuck until the 30th and the 2nd, so we're in a better place considering. The island is completely without power, we're fortunate enough to be on a generator, the phone landlines are down, cell service is in and out, i don't have much luck calling out but i can usually receive calls and my texts are working. We have a curfew 6pm-6a each day, the hotel doors are barricaded so we go in and out an emergency door that has guards manning it. They've began to ration the water , it's cut off from 10am-6pm each day. There's been no fuel i think we will start seeing stranded vehicles soon, rumor spread about a station near by that has supply but about 200 cars are in line, dad's going to get in line. They're rationging the power we do have, only sections of the hotel have it and only parts of the room will work during certain hours. The food is scarce, there's a little cafe in the hotel that serves snacks, sandwhiches and pizza, she said yesterday that they will run out if a truck doesn't come. They serve lunch and dinner at $8 a plate, lunch is rice and beans, and it's actually not that bad. Dinner varies, no menu choices, what they fix is what you get, we don't. It's sad there are people out there with nothing. There's a CVS and a market a few blocks up, they've been wiped out. Layla and I walked up there at 4:45pm yesterday and they wouldn't let us in, we think panic is setting in. Can't even buy alcohol, the store wouldn't let me. The hotel bars have been closed all week, until last night. Thank fully it's open now. The kids are in good spirits, everyone is having their fill, but we are all safe and healthy. We're going to walk to the beach today just to get out of this hotel for awhile. The girls and I have a flight out Tuesday, and mom and pop are set to fly out Wednesday. Just keep us in your prayers, and hope that we make it out on tuesday and wednesday like is scheduled right now.
Wow, Aeri. Kind of sounds like instant war-torn third-world country: Just add hurricane. The good news is, hurricane season is pretty much over at this point. (I mean, right? Someone back me up here. Please tell me this nightmare is over for awhile.)
Non perishables a must for PR. No electric, No refrigeration.. Beef Jerky is non perishable, light and easy to mail. Hurricane season goes into November..
This is pretty interesting, it lists hurricane related fatalities by year. I didn't realize hurricanes have killed so many people over the years. I guess most deaths occur in poorer island nations so mostly get ignored by american media https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_hurricane_season
What kind of assholes would do this? Confirmed info: The AT&T optical fiber communications cable in San Juan was deliberately cut with a saw by alleged vandals today, after it was fixed and re-connected. A SWAT team has already identified the authors of this terrible vandalism act.https://www.************/prinforma/?hc_ref=ARQcy6Tj7V7G_VJG69M-yjpPK1j4voGmFb4uQOtt3JDSd2hoTO6PZQSecgFpv9bwRNY&fref=nf Edit: Some say it was not vandalism but an accident by people clearing. IDK
Hearing a few stories about how the some people there have never seen the stars at night, they way they do now...
A grocery store in Guarbo, PR (where my daughter in law's father lives, lost it's roof and had to throw out all the food that needed refrigeration. It's been laying out for days. People don't care; they are eating it anyway.
Much those prepared or processed foods contain so much salt. Even after thawing for days, they could be edible.. In the hot sun they may even be ready to eat. Sealed up they could be ok for a tad .. Thinking they may need some offshore power ships to get emergency refrigeration, and medical equipment stable .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powership
•CURFEW / ALCOHOL LAW: Both continue indefinitely. Anyone who does not comply will be arrested and the penalty is 6 months in jail. Businesses that serve alcohol, are going to lose their license for 6 months. Exceptions to breaking the "curfew": medical emergencies only. https://www.************/prinforma/posts/1708910019160388 Knowing Puerto Ricans like I do, this alcohol law is going to cause big problems.
My friend posted Sunday evening: Idk if this is working. But we just walked to the beach. And I got my first notification. My flights been cancelled 5times. They can't get us out til Oct 1. It's such a mess. Just makes no sense. My service at the hotel is in and out. Will update again if it lets me.
This is what our fellow Boricuas in the island are living at the airport. Everyone trying to leave, but barely any flights are taking off. There's no food, no water, no a/c and the government promised to send help but there's none coming in yet. https://www.************/prinforma/?hc_ref=ARR_uete_Ve0EO1nb7vZRi1HsD-YK-nhEV62c0r80xDuGLHwcWB5c8tQmJqX6_JgTsA
