I am inland NC, they are predicting rain and flooding.

My son (11) and I are heading to a friend’s house to hang out. School is closed today and Friday.

It reminds me of Hurricane Charley when it hit FL. I lived in Orlando and it knocked power out for a week.

    Now it’s a CAT 2.

No need for over a million people to evacuate. Yea, heavy rains in some areas, possibly flooding but...

I wouldn’t have left lol :tearsofjoy:

Having lived through multiple hurricanes (Alicia 1982, eye went right over my house), Ike in 2008 and Harvey one year ago (50" inches of rain in 24 hrs) I would definitely get out if I was in a low lying area. Florence is forecast to drop 30 - 40 inches of rain. That means lots of flooding. More folks die in the storm surge and flooding from a hurricane than they do from the winds.

I know but I doubt it’s going to impact nearly 2 million people. That sounds a bit overreactive. People can do as they wish but unless I lived in a flood zone or on the coast, I wouldn’t leave. After all the hype in my area with Irma, “it’s going to hit central Florida head on!” I’m just not going into panic mode like last year.

After Ike in 2008 I was without power for 11 days. I know a bunch of folks who were powerless for 3 weeks.

A lot of those 2 million people probably do live on or very close to the coast. Myrtle Beach up to Wilmington is a highly populated area, then the Outer Banks is hundreds of miles long and some places are accessible only by ferry, so its not like you can change your mind if you dont evacuate ahead of time. You're basically stuck there once the storm starts

I don't recall if it was Ike or Harvey but as the storm approached they advised people who decided not to evacuate to write their ssn's on their foerarms so they could be id'd after the storm...
