we live in Pa and hurricanes are not less dangerous here because they are not a direct hit. They bring lots of rain to an already saturated watershed. Where the water has nowhere to go but downhill. The flooding danger is much higher.
Most of the deaths that occur as the result of a hurricane are caused by the storm surge or flooding.
Combat Veterans MC would like to thank everyone that donated to relief efforts, and supplies. You can find their link at gofundme @ Combat Vets MC aid for Florence
North Carolina DOT is working diligently to repair roads throughout the state, but with more than 1,100 roads still closed across the state as of Tuesday, transportation officials are asking for patience. “Our biggest concern now is trying to figure out where the road is washed out, where residents are trapped and can’t get out either way. Anson County says damaged roads are biggest concern as floodwaters recede
Yes well lets not agnoledge them Orison.... They dont realise how bad it is... (Most ppl dont if they arent involved)
All over my Facebook feed too, some sad pictures for sure. When I first saw the birds eye view I thought they were little hotdogs in water and then when they zoomed in I was like holy Dooley they're pigs. There's also the pictures of pets too and I can't look at them. If I scroll across a foundation, I will dobate.
Thanks hotwater for bringing us back on topic... Some people... Anyway. • Rivers are still rising in South Carolina and will continue throughout the week, the state's Emergency Response Team said Wednesday morning. • Some 2,600 National Guard men and women are deployed across the state. • About 800 power outages have occurred in South Carolina. • North Carolina farms lost an estimated 3.4 million poultry birds and 5,500 pigs, officials said. • South Carolina cotton farmers also were hit hard. Soaked ground could damage peanut crops, and hemp stems were reported blown over, the state said. https://www-m.cnn.com/2018/09/19/us/florence-wednesday-wxc/index.html?r=https://www.google.com/
The only saving grace is they were already earmarked for consumption, so they would have been slaughtered within weeks.
At least 24 of North Carolina deaths from Florence were in vehicles. Most of those 24 deaths were caused by drowning in the vehicle.
Yep, it's not safe nor smart to drive around on hills and curves in the dark when flooding is about. That's what the woman did that lost her one year old son. She said everything was fine until she suddenly heard rushing water and the car was in it. Even the seemingly careless and misinformed deserve sympathy.
During Harvey last year we had a family in a van washed away. One of many unnecessary deaths. So sad and so preventable.
I know it's really shitty to be concerned with given the situation, but I wonder if this will affect chicken and pork product prices in the coming weeks. It would suck to have to dump a bunch of money into repairs and whatnot and then have to deal with expensive food prices on top of it all.
