Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy magazine and an important pioneer of the sexual revolution, has passed away. When he founded the magazine in 1953, the concept of a woman owning her own sexuality was highly controversial, strongly disapproved by mainstream society. A woman who chose to be openly sexual, or an exhibitionist or nudist, or openly bisexual, was commonly viewed as a danger to society from which people should be protected by law. He fought long and hard for their rights, at the risk of personal disaster, and won nearly every battle. Today, young women in America have grown up taking for granted their personal sexual rights, not commonly knowing how big of a role Hefner played in bringing this about.

In recent years, the magazine's popularity has declined, as it was no longer on the cutting edge. You could say he worked himself out of a job, perhaps the ultimate accomplishment in business.

When Hef went into semi-retirement, he turned the top position over to his daughter Christie, who instantly became the highest ranking female CEO in America, in terms of company size and revenue. Far from being a figurehead, she actively ran the company for several years, continuing to empower women and promote them to high levels of responsibility.

RIP, Hef. I hope you're enjoying at least 72 non-virgins. He likes the girls with experience. [IMG]

How long do you predict it will be before somebody makes the predictable politically correct post about porn guys exploiting women? Hef often gets lumped in with Larry Flynt and Bob Guccione, who represent a darker side of the same movement. I think of them as cheap imitators.

If anybody was exploiting anybody through that magazine, it was women who were exploiting men, earning big money for a few hours of "work", mostly doing something that they enjoyed and found exciting, laughing all the way to the bank.

Giving in to pressure from politically correct liberal activist women, and trying to address declining sales, trying to copy the success of Maxim. It was a failed experiment. Playboy will never again have the sales numbers it used to have before the internet. They have to stay true to themselves, and learn to live with less money. That's what they're doing now.

It's still about the only way to get softcore porn without giving your credit card number to somebody who will sell it to the Russian Mafia.

The articles have always been outstanding. Of course, you don't read those until you get tired of looking at that month's pictures. Anybody who says otherwise is a fucking liar.

Liberal activist fanatic women used to file lawsuits against Hef and protest on the sidewalk in front of his headquarters and the Chicago Playboy Club. That's a big part of why he moved the company from Chicago to LA, where people were more tolerant.

A truly liberated woman doesn't say to another woman, "keep your clothes on" as long as only consenting adults are involved. That's PC bullshit. Chicago was slow to figure it out.

Yes, they were very cute at that time. Now, they're likely all old hags because of too much booze, drugs, and cigarettes.

    R.I.P Hugh.

They wanted to see if emulating Maxim would get them into a younger audience. Which is hilarious since Playboy was only outpaced by National Geographic among pre-teen boys!

In all fairness I'm sure playboy has had push back from the evangelical right over the years too

But overall I agree with the sentiments you've expressed. In a world where human trafficking and sex slavery is a real thing, why project negativity on a man who paid women quite well and treated them very kindly by all accounts? There are more important things to be bothered about, Hugh was just a man living a dream

My only complaint about Hugh is he depicted a very limited aesthetic, fake boobs and fake blonde hair seemed to be his thing. Blech
