No hugging went on at my school, but we all used to shower together naked once a week.

    Excerpt:

"But a majority of lawmakers, who voted to pass the bill, failed to see the humor in it. During the floor debate in the House, Republican Carl Isett, of Lubbock, called for a return to “old-fashioned morality,” citing sexually suggestive cheerleading—along with out-of-wedlock births and throwaway marriages—as evidence of the moral decay of our time. “If I take my twelve-year-old son to a high school football game, I don’t want to have to cover his eyes when the cheerleaders are on the field,” he said. Linda Harper-Brown, a Republican from Irving, praised the bill as “a shot across the bow” for school districts, which would have lost funding under its provisions if they did not ensure that their cheerleaders’ routines were sufficiently wholesome. Representative Edwards went so far as to suggest a link between “overly sexy performances” on the sidelines and a host of social ills. “We see, as a result, more of our young girls getting pregnant in middle and high school, dropping out of school, having babies, contracting AIDS, herpes, and cutting off their youthful life at an early age,” he said. “And members, it’s part of our responsibility to do something about it.” While legislators who opposed the measure criticized it for being everything from a sexist bill (no one was regulating football players’ behavior) to a publicity stunt, the rhetoric from supporters—which included the local chapter of Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum—seemed to suggest that cheerleaders posed a threat to the moral fiber of the children of Texas every time they walked onto a football field."

What kind of high school did you people go to? You couldn't hug? wtf?
That being said, hugs were really annoying back in school. It was like some necessary preliminary part of the boy-girl relationship that had to be completed before anything else.

Somebody should do a comedy sketch: The Vice Squad vs. the Cheerleader Squad. :)

Yup. Those kids should not be communicating by texting only. Hugging will just confuse them.

hahaha... to both of these! :D

We do. Loads of people hug all the time. Heck, even I do! :D

Question: Does hugging trees count? :D

It did at my school. TOTALLY serious. There was a tree out front and we'd ALWAYS get yelled at for touching it at lunch. Weird.

    I lol'd.

We get shouted at for breaking branches and pulling leaves etc, but never hugging trees. And here you're not supposed to display loads of affection etc. in front of the lil'er kids but ... trees?

Did they shout out 'dirty tree hugger' if they saw you? :D

When I was a cheerleader, our school was very strict about what we could and could not do as far as routines, or songs in which we performed them to.

When I saw this, I couldn't get over it, that a school would allow this kind of dance, because I know mine certainly wouldn't have!

I mean, yeah, it's a good routine but wow, I think it's a tad inappropriate at school considering the age and whatnot.

My daughter, who is 6 years old, will be cheering this football season. I'll be interested to see what routines they're going to do, because I've seen some of the squads with little ones doing some crazy stuff. Goodness forbid if they do, because my husband will have an absolute fit and be pulling her off the field. :p

^ Some girls did a song here like that a few years ago. They did it in assembly.

  15. I would wait until a pep rally or something and plan a great big hug in the middle of the auditorium.

We were allowed to hug, but we rarely did it. We're not too keen on unnecessary physical contact.
