How would you define a Hippy?

(real) Hippy: somebody who treats people the way he/she wants to be treated.


Fuck everybody else.

 

I call myself a hippie and what not and ppl ask me when I say that is do I do drugs and I say no. Then they say I'm not a real hippie. I have morals and values to keep up and some of the stuff hippies did back then don't agree with how I've been raised, so I tweak the lifestyle so that it fits my morals and values....

 

Peace and love were by-products of the counter-culture movement. All it took to be part of it was an open mind and an open life. Thats it. Nothing more. It wasnt the clothes, the cliche signs, or any of that... Christ its not that complex people. The term "hippy" came from opium dens. They laid on their sides for hours on end creating hip problems. Their laid back attitude was then seen in members of the counterculture movement and viola.

 

Look, all that bullshit about what is a hippie, is just that. It can be whatever you want it to be. Just be yourself no matter what anybody(including people here) tell you, and you are a hippy.

 

I think everybody should just chill out, and enjoy exactly what life is, and that is whatever you want it to be.

 

being a hippy is your own state of mind.

I've noticed 2 schools of thought
A) Fuck labels
B) Its a state of mind. Just be man

with all due respect, I was there in the 60's and I was a hippie, albeit a young one, and still am, and the "freaks" that followed were heavily into drugs. The Rockers were into Rock and Roll, but the Hippies were into two essential things: Peace and Love.
That's just the way it is, or at least was. Anyone who calls themself a hippie, and is not into peace and love as the primary ideals and values they live by, are living a lie, or at least a factual error, IMNSHO.

Hippies were usually very spiritual but not religious, very sexually open, often into natural live and organic foods, usually very politically left...but of all the things the original hippies of San Fransisco and Berkley and London and whatnot were, they were ALL into Peace and Love. This I know to be an indisputable fact of history.

I know *I* am a hippie, and I am into peace and love. Others can call themselves what they want, and embrace any ideals that please them, and I will not project my own scene onto them...unless they call themself.... a hippie.
