In the 50's the US sent military aid to vietnam to assist the French colony from Indochina, who were trying not to let the Communists take over.....in 1962 JFK upped the amount of americans in Nam from 650 to like 12,000. They were trying to support and train South Nam's army....the Communists (Vietcong) were now trying to take over the South. After the Vietcongs took over the South, and Lyndon Johnson became succesor to Kennedy's Presidency...he didn't want to back out cuz it would look bad, and there could be a possible backlash...so he started all the crazy fighting; After Vietcong attacked a US base and killed some americans, Johnson ordered the "Operation Rolling Thunder" a huge bombing campaign (much like Bush's Operation Clean Sweep) launched in North Vietnam which basically showed that the US was no longer involved to provide "assistance" they were there to start kicking peoples asses. That's when they started to send in like 3500 troups or something like that and shit hit the fan. I dont know why people thought it was a good idea, but look at people with the War in Iraq, some people think its a good idea right now. People thought it was a bad idea because it was middle-class and poor people who were being drafted...it was alot of young kids....so basically you were in school with these guys who were your friends and family getting sent off to die in a pointless war. Thats why it was mostly students and younger adults protesting. By the time the war was nearing it's end, most of those who were for it in the begining opposed it. It was a shitty war, and Bush is totally gonna do the exact same thing. GRRR I HATE WAR!!!!!! you should do a search on yahoo or something to get more information. War stuff can be confusing business sometimes.

The roots to the Vietnam war started in WWII.Ho Chi Mihn was our allie against the japanese. After the war,Ho Chi Mihn wanted to be friends with the US.BUT,the french wanted their colony back, and we agreed. That pissed uncle Ho off,and that pretty much started it.After the french got their ass kicked in 1954 at Din Bin Phu, Ho declared the shit starts now. After a fictious attack on one of our navy ships in the early 60's,we started sending in troops.Their is,or should be books at your local library to help with your assignment.Good luck.

there are some RVN veterans on the forums. I got sucked up by the Army 71-72. Near the end of it. It was very very spooky, and did some unrepairable damage to my soul I think. I'm concerned about the young dudes coming back from Iraq. They act all hard on the news. I can relate, I use to carry a human ear around in my wallet when I was there (RVN). It was funny then. But, it catches up with you, and you never foget it.

Ohh yeah..kinda..haha. well on this post i asked how it got started, and on my other one i asked what were SUPOSELY the "good" reasons for it? Because I had to write about my opinon on Vietnam War, and then tell the reasons why some people AGREED with it, and then put their reasons down with my own, which were against it :) I can't wait till I get out of school...oh and HomeBudz how bad was it?

Lookin across the panarama of history, we can see that the war in Vietnam and the rest of Indo-china began the instant Vasco Da Gama first rounded Cape Horn and entered the Indian Ocean.

From that moment on, the fate of all of Asia was sealed. The Orcs of Mordor were approaching.

A human ear? Geez. That's hardcore...

That reminds me of a story my grandmother told me about a man in Coushatta who jumped in front of a train and killed himself, and a few weeks later this little kid found his ear and freaked out and had to be sent away or something. Poor little guy. :(

Have you seen that evangelist preacher guy that had one of those phosphorus grenade things explode in his hand? His face is totally deformed... he has fake ears and he takes them off to show people. He's kind of funny... but I can't remember anything he said, because I wasn't listening. Maybe I should have.
