So, I cut my hair extrodinarily short, buzzed on the sides and back and long at the front.most of the hair that's left is all virgin hair. No dye, no chemical treatment. I want to start the journey of growing dreads, I'm just not sure how to do that. I mean, I want to do the neglect process, but should I start now with my hair so short, or wait until it grows out more? I heard the Dr. Brommer's soap is great for locks, especially if you add water and tea tree oil to it. Should I just start shampooing my hair with that and let nature take it's course? Thanks for any help.

If you're going neglect you just stop brushing and conditioning the hair. You do that as soon as you've decided. Short hair won't take to neglect very well but there's not a lot of point in continuing to brush and condition while you wait for the hair to grow out.

I started from short hair and I'm here to tell you no matter what method you choose go with at least 4 inches of healthy hair before you even change your hair care methods to let it grow out those initial inches healthy and fast. I also started from buzzed I let it grow a few months, got a professional clipping to get rid of loose ends, and then cut the conditioner out, later bought lock shampoo when i started seeing tangles and knots. I did twist and rip however, not neglect. a lot of maintenance.

like bubble was saying short hair will lock in a much messier way than long hair so they dont handle neglect well.. but your main priority at this point should be a healthy start of hair either way you have time to decide what you wish to do :) eventually you will just fall into your own practices as you notice good results.
