There are many "Christians" who would call this statement "heresey."

Perhaps, at one time you might have called those languages perfect, but since humanity has gotten ahold of them, does this continue to be true? Think about your answer carefully. Do our alterations in language mar the perfection of the language? If you answer the question "no," and say that which was created "perfect" cannot be corrupted, then you will have to accept the continued "perfection" of every other thing which god created and man has altered. Is this what you are saying?

Has this become a truly fascinating thread, or what?

Ultimately, all religion is about recognizing and maintaining this very same relationship.

If your belief system is NOT about recognizing and maintaining this relationship, then what you have is just a philosophy.

If, or when, Christ returns, he will certainly be a good human being who, simply does not support any war, who does not support big business' trampling over the lives of "unprofitable" humans, does not preach intolerance for other people's religions, does not support the destructive dualism that is eroding our political system, is not a nationalist, a racist, a sexist, or a homophobe.

He would probably suggest that those who have benefited most from civilization should wise up (yes, right now!!!), get humble and show some appreciation for the very same civilization that gives them their happy, comfortable life. He would probably suggest they support civilization (or risk losing it) by helping those who have benefited the least, by simply paying their taxes and helping the poor, the sick, the hungry, the homeless, the hopeless, the desperate.

In other words, it's all about the relationships that keep civilization, and every other facet of reality, alive and healthy.

In our, apparently, yet-to-be-enlightened times, there are too many "Christians" who refuse to recognize their favorite son until he proves himself by suffering for them. There are too many "Christians" who would insist on crucifying Christ once again, before they even know who he is and what he offers.

It was George Bernard Shaw who said "All great truths begin as blasphemies." I think it is just about having the balls to say - There is always more good beyond the strictly familiar.

Buddha doesn't have a relationship with you. Vishnu doesn't, Ra doesn't, there's no other 'religion', besides christianity, where you can have a relationship with the creator of the universe.

I think he means relationship as in creator/higher power and us; not father son/daughter

But, Islam is another religion in which there is this relationship between man and Allah.
Various Greek gods and goddesses often intervened and had relations with humans as well.

Now that's simply untrue. You are letting your belief system blind you. It's my guess that you don't count other belief systems which allow for a personal relationship with the divine simply because you believe that Christianity (or more to the point, your idea of what Christianity is) is the only one.

I know followers of Egyptian traditions who claim to have a personal relationship with all of the gods of ancient Egypt. Their concept of what a god is is somewhat different from yours, however. No point in explaining the difference to you. Your only interest in this discussion seems to be asserting your own spiritual superiority.

As for Vishnu, the very name means "All-Pervading One." hence anyone who recognizes Vishnu cannot help but have a personal relationship with that deity.

And one other small note: To have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, is NOT to have a personal relationship with the creator of the universe. You need to spend more time studying your own religious doctrines. Jesus Christ, the son, (YHSVH) is the preserver of the universe, whose act of sacrifice is an intervention with his father, the creator (YHVH) on your behalf. Why can't more Christians understand the metaphysical workings of their own religion? I suppose most Christians are trained not to think about it too much. Thinking might raise questions and very few Christians can withstand such probing into their spirituality.

    About Hare Krishna/ISKCON from http://www.religioustolerance.org/hare.htm

"The roots of the faith can be traced back to the advent of Krishna, 5000 years ago in a village in India called Vrindavana. The faith has been revived in recent history by the 16th Century Guru Caitanya Mahaprabu who is regarded by the Hare Krishnas as an incarnation of Krishna in the form of His own devotee. He taught that Lord Krishna was the principle deity, God Himself, and that everyone can regain a personal relationship with Krishna through sankirtana (congregational chanting of God's names, specifically the Hare Krishna Mantra). This tradition was continued by a line of Gurus including (early in this century) Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Gosvami Maharaj."

sorry ryu, i like you, but Chistianity isnt the only one that promises a personal relationship, though its the only one i wish to see and feel, and only one [true one] i know is out there

    thanx. :)
    Yes.
Everything is perfect. People can't see that until their understanding reaches the level that they perceive God's grace in all things (including all the silly rituals). Critical mass of knowledge/wisdom so to speak.

Everyone except the one adding to our repertoire (God).

Of course. They will both learn the things that are appropriate for them to learn at that point in life.

    Lol. You are awesome.
I think if someone feels their faith cannot withstand scrutiny, in their heart they should know that their faith is not correct. A person might need to proselytize so that their misconceptions can be corrected.

My faith withstands scrutiny, so I put it out there for all to see. I do willfully accept correction, because I like to be right.

What about wars that God set's up for us to participate in (for fun)? I still enjoy video games, even though I know the outcome is set. It's the experience that counts in this case.

Or maybe he would suggest letting God take care of everyone and having faith that what occurs is part of God's plan.

catholics are ridiculous, if you love god so much what makes you think he hates you?
why must you assume that you're born to go to hell, and must fight every waking moment aginst it?
maybe god wants you with him in heaven and you've just got to be a good person and do good things for others, etc., etc.

because conditioning from an early age makes them believe their religion is the only way. It is partly because they are stupid. yeah ill say it; orthodox christians are dumb, unintelligent, and the stubbornest of people. How could they not be, to give up their own identity, rule out all common sense and reasoning, and have faith in one of many myths, while claiming their myth is the only true one.

I'm sure even other Christians would be appaled by this remark. This must be the most arrogant and prejudiced statement that i've heard in a long time. And I hate to bust your bubble, but I'm anti-religion and I'm not poverty-stricken at all. And if you really want to talk intelligent and well learned, check out some Jews. Christians like yourself only get money by extorting others. And judging by your statement, the "intelligence" and "well learned" part of Christianity obviously past over your sorry ass.

Anyways, why are you guys still arguing this stuff? It's obvious that different people have different beliefs, so why must everyone force their own into everyone else. One thing about being human is that it's ok to have your own beliefs. If this is too much to handle, then maybe you should go to Iran where your close-mindness would be more welcome.

    Way to toss that grenade!!!
at yer own feet (heh, heh)
    :X

This is really a subject for a different thread, but OH, MAN! I really want to take a good look at this statement! I don't even know where to begin first...[IMG]

WHHHoooeeee! Talk about rose tinted glasses! What world are you living in?!? To begin with:

A: "Most intelligent" is a pretty broad statement. Intelligence comes in many different forms. How are you measuring intellect? It looks as if you are trying to say (and poorly, I might add) that financial security is equivalent to intellect. Is that right?

B: "Well learned" is not the same thing as intelligent and it also comes in many forms, but the most commonly recognized form, the one most people tend to equate with the word "learned," is what you might call book learnin'. You would be very hard pressed to prove that Christians, taken as a sub-culture separate from the rest of humanity (which vastly outnumbers them) are better educated than any other religiously affiliated sub-culture on the planet.
C: Not all people who identify themselves as Christians are conservative. I have to assume that you believe otherwise. Possibly, you are implying that more Christians are conservative than any other sub-culture. That is certainly not true. Do you even know what the word "conservative" means? The fact that you would even make such a blanket generalization is proof, itself that you are not counted among the group you are describing (Wait, though, there's more [IMG]).
Somewhere in there, you made this completely redundant statement: liberal anti-Christians reject christianity (creative capitalization, by the way). Because the statement is so badly structured, that redundancy became its actual meaning, but I'll be kind and address what I think you meant.

I think you are trying to say that being liberal and anti-Christian leads to a low income, poverty stricken existence. This, by your logic, would make being liberal and anti-Christian also equivalent to being less intelligent than Christians (significantly, too, since being poverty stricken would mean one was quite stupid, according to you).

So finally, we come to the last part:
Yesss... (evil chuckle) let's do that, shall we? Using your own argument as evidence, I'd have to say that you are dead wrong.

Thank you for playing. You are the weakest link! Goodbye.

Ok, that was mean, of me, I know. I should be trying to help the poor misguided fellow along the road to clarity and understanding. Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. [IMG]

You are wrong. It's not just Jesus, but mostly the Holy Spirit you have contact to, however, the whole trinity listens when you pray.

I'd like to see the thing on the ancient Egyptians.

And believe me, the reason I don't question The Word is because I KNOW it's true. And BTW, no: I wasn't raised christian.

And I don't believe Vishnu can heal, or work miracles.
