me and my friend used to ask a morality teacher at our school similar questions, and he said that at the supposed final judgement, God will judge how people lived their lives, and if you have lived a good life God will accept you into heaven. AN example he used was like tribes and such that have never heard of christianity, they would not be rejecting Jesus, so God will have to judge on character. Likewise God cannot punish a handicapped person for being mentally incapable of understanding religion.

    Ouch !!!

How are you going to know if you're in heaven if you have no thought as to where you are? How are you going to be able to identify happiness without thought to identify it? Without the ability to know what happiness is, how are you sure it's happiness your experiencing?

I have to somewhat agree, and disagree on your thought ... however, I'm sure the body is only responding to stimulii ... its the thoughts that direct it to sin. I'm sure the body doesn't know one bit that the mind is enjoying its sensations when the mind directs it through thought to perform the task of touching.

So the agree part is that happiness is when you don't think ... sort of ... what a conundrum ...

yeah i dunno why i said you dont think, because if anything you ONLy think in heaven. i kinda meant you dont think like you do on earth. you dont think about the weather, or what time it is or what youre going to eat for dinner, its more just eternal happiness, with nothing relaly to think about. im talking like i actually know ;)

    Hikaru Zero,

First of all, it would seem as though a minister wouldn't be stumped so easily, if he would simply rely on the scripture to answer the question. First of all, in order to successfully answer your question for you and give you assurance, you would need to believe that the bible is God's holy word. You said that you weren't sure about that is that correct?

The bible was written by God through 40 men in 3 languages over a 1,500 year period. These men lived in different parts of the world, some were rich, some were poor, some were educated, some were not, most didn't know each other, nor did they have access to the other's writings and yet it fits together as if it were written by one person. It was written by God. It has no errors or contradictions. It is the Word of God. The bible is accurate in matters of Science, History, and all matters of life. There are countless prophecies which have been predicted and fulfilled perfectly in scripture. Many of these prophecies were written hundreds or even thousands of years before they were even fulfilled.

50 Specific Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus

    The Jewish Mystery

The Messiah, the Christ in Greek

Prophecies of the OT Fulfilled in Jesus Christ:

There have been described in the Old Testament 300 prophecies of the first coming of the Messiah and 500 of the second coming, all of then made hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus and fulfilled to the letter in Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

George Heron, a French mathematician, calculated that the odds of one man fulfilling only 40 of those prophecies are 1 in 10 to the power of 157. That is a 1 followed by 157 zeros. Compare it to this; your odds on winning the state lottery are 14 followed by 6 zeros.

Another mathematician, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, claims the odds of being fulfilled only 60 of them by the only person who claimed to be the Son of God, and who died on a "tree" on Calvary, and who rose the 3rd day are astronomical!... not just one in one trillion, but one out of ten to the 895th power. That is a one over a one followed by 895 zeros.

And still more, because every page of the Old Testament talks and prophecies and characterizes the coming of the Messiah, the Christ in Greek... so, there are actually thousands of prophecies on the coming of the Messiah, all of them fulfilled to the letter in Jesus Christ and His Church as they are shown in this site.

Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. (Jn.1:45)

If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me (Jn.5:46).

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. (Lk.24:27)

He said to them, This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms. (Lk.24:44).

He told them, This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, (Lk.24:46).

Prophecies and types of each book of the Bible fulfilled in Jesus Christ and His Church, a total of 1,093

47- Rejected by his own people, the Jews: Is.53:3, John 1:11.

    48- Not believed: Is.53:1, John 12:37.

    49- Adored by infants: Ps.8:2, Matt.21:15--16.50- Anointed and eternal: Ps.45:6-7, Heb.1:8-12.

These are just a few reasons why I believe that the bible is God's holy word.

Here are just a few prophecies which have come true, out of hundreds or even thousands. The first verse which makes the prediction is hundreds or even thousands of years older than it's fulfilment. Many of these predictions about Jesus were written through different men. Wouldn't that greatly increase the risk that there would be contradiction? Because God told them what to write, there was no contradiction.

    Frodo:

Thank you for helping me with this problem, but I'm afraid I don't understand. You said that in order for you to answer my question, I have to believe in God and the Bible. Why? The question is still the same even when I do believe in God, and I don't expect to necessarily believe your answer, but I'd like to see it answered accurately and in plain English by an informed Christian; that might help dissuade any negative associations I might have with the religion.

I read through most of the scripture you posted, and didn't come to any conclusion to my question ... perhaps you can point it out a little clearer?

    You've asked me this question:

My question is ... why, if I don't believe in God/Jesus exactly as the Bible dictates, would I be sentenced to eternal damnation?

My answer is yes you would go to hell. First of all did you read this post? It should answer that for you already.

My answer for you is this:

    You and I are sinners.

    Ro 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Because of our sins we die both spritually and physically:

    Ro 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: {for that: or, in whom}

Notice here that the second death is being thrown into the lake of fire:

Re 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

We sin against God which makes us imperfect. God is perfect and cannot allow imperfection to come into heaven or it will corrupt it. The problem is that we can never be perfect. So God sent His Son Jesus Christ to live a perfect life on earth, then die in your and my place. He then rose from the dead 3 days later and went to heaven and gave all of His blood to God the Father for an offering for our sins. We can't be good to get to heaven because we are already sinners. If we could be good to get to heaven, then Jesus Christ wouldn't have needed to die on the cross and suffer for our sins. You cannot get into heaven on your own because it is Jesus Christ's righteousness that gets you in, not your own. All you can do is accept what He did for you on the cross. If you don't then you will have to pay for your sins yourself by going to hell. My answer is that you must believe on the name of Jesus Christ for salvation.

    Jesus Christ Himself said this:

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    (KJV)

    First John says this:

1Jo 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

It's NOT about how good you are. It's about receiving what Jesus Christ did on the cross to pay for your sins.

    Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: {power: or, the right, or, privilege}

Him is Jesus Christ. Where does it say being good gets you into heaven? We can't be good enough. We can't get there by going to church. We can't get there by being baptized. We can ONLY Get there by accepting Jesus Christ as Savior and confessing Him as our Savior with our mouths before men. That is the reason that I put the prayer on there. Read the very beggining of this post, entitled "How to get to heaven when you die". It clearly explains this very question. Go to the begginning of this post and pray that prayer from your heart to God and mean it with all of your heart. He will save you. Give Jesus Christ a chance. I guarentee that you will never regret it.

Jesus Christ -"I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and Spirit."

When they asked, "What shall we do?" Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ said, "Repent and be baptized." (Acts 2:38)

I am sorry, but by simplying confessing that you are aware that Christ died for your sins, does NOT mean you are saved. All it means is that you have repented and confessed.

    Baptism does NOT save.

Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

You fail to understand this verse. It doesn't say that baptism saves. Look at the explanation of the verse. That which is born of flesh is flesh (water represents fleshly birth, the mother's womb contains water), that which is born of Spirit is spirit (Spiritual birth)

    Mr 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. {for: or, unto}

    Lu 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

As far as baptism saving you, it is the baptism of repentence that saves, not water baptism. The baptism is an outward showing of what happens when you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. It is NOT salvation, nor is it part of it. It is a believer's act of obedience.

Mr 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
    (KJV)

Look at this verse. At first glance it appears as though baptism saves. But it says "He that believeth not shall be damned." He is not damned for not being baptized.

1Pe 3:21 ¶ The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
    (KJV)

The baptism being talked about is a good concience toward God not water baptism. It says "not the putting away of the filth of the flesh" but what? "a good conscience toward God"

    Here are verses regarding Salvation:

Ac 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Where is baptism mentioned here for Salvation.

    1Co 1:17 ¶ For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. {words: or, speech}
    (KJV)

    What did it just say?

Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    Where is baptism mentioned here?

Ro 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

    Where is baptism mentioned here?

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

It says it is by grace through faith, not baptism.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    (KJV)

It says whosoever believeth in Him. Where is baptism meantioned here?

If baptism were necessary for salvation surely it would have been mentioned in these important passages.

You cannot possess the Holy Ghost unless you are saved right?

Ac 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

They were already saved and possessed the Holy Ghost and they had not been baptized yet.

Ga 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

    Where is baptism mentioned here?

Mr 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

I believe that some of those verses that you believe are talking about water baptism are actually talking about being baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Ro 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
    (KJV)

    Baptism is not mentioned here.

Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The Door is Jesus Christ. We enter in by accepting Him.

Re 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

We open the door by receiving Him, what He did on the cross for us to pay for our sins. Baptism is an act of obedience. It is a public profession of faith.

Lu 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

This theif couldn't be baptized and Jesus Christ told him what? Today thou shalt be with me in paradise. Because He asked Jesus to save him. He received what Jesus did for Him.

Ac 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

What was the requirement for Him to be baptized? He has to believe. Baptism is for believer's only. Believer's are already Saved.

1Jo 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If believing means that you know that you have eternal life, where is baptism mentioned here?

It is very clear that baptism is NOT for salvation but an act of obedience. It is an ordinaince just as communion is.

Yet, without obedience to the Lord, one STILL lacks salvation.

More importantly than water baptism is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which the mainstream Christianity that you preach lacks. Without the possession of Christ's spirit, one cannot enter into Heaven.

I am sorry, but I have to agree with what is being said. This does sound like mainstream Christian propoganda. Mainstream Christianity is quite far from Christ.

Anyone can believe in Christ. Not everyone who does is saved. That is a false message.

What does it mean to "believe in" something? Is your experience of the divine the same as your neighbors experience? We each view reality through the lens of ourselves. Our experiences filter the sensory data we recieve from the world so that each of us has a unique perspective. If you each have different experiences of the divine, can you ever really say that you believe the same way? Hence, either everyone has the same God regardless of how they percieve it or everyone has their own personal, individual God. In truth, both perspectives are correct.

If I say that Jesus and Ceridwen, and Bhuddha, and Astarte, and Lisa, from down the street are all ultimately the same being (the Alpha and the Omega) and that I love them all, am I not following the commandments set forth in the Bible? I put no God before any other, nor behind any other because they are all the same. The Earth is God and the Sky is God and the Word is God and the Light is God and you are God. How can you not come to God by any way other than Jesus, if Jesus IS God? How can I not come to God through Bob, since Bob is also Jesus and also God and also me? God IS. Just as you and I ARE.

Where in the Bible does it define what God is NOT?

If you believe in nothing, then you believe in God. If you believe in everything, then you believe in God. Everyone comes to God through Jesus (even if they have never heard if Him) because we are all Jesus. And we are all Satan. And we fight ourselves and make moral determinations and judge ourselves and each other and delude ourselves into believing that we are separate so that we may love each other and hate each other. We are a constantly expanding sphere with no circumference and no center, and an infinite number of 'I's (eyes?). From your pespective, perhaps, you see the world through only two eyes, but yours are two of that infinite number. Even so, if you spend all your time removing the specks from the eyes of those around you, you will never get that great plank out of your own, and your monocular vision will leave you with only a two-dimensional view of a universe with infinite dimensions. This is why you think that your way to God is the only way... it's all you can see.

    That's what I said. [IMG]

It's too bad that you can only see your little part of the road. All roads are one road. If you set your foot on a road (any road) and ask the divine within yourself to guide you, the voice will never answer "Oh, well, you can't get there from here."

    Frodo:

Thanks for answering my question. =) You did a good, thorough job; I'm impressed.

Unfortunately, it leads me to a couple more which I'd like to ask now ...

    (1) Why are we punished for the sins of our ancestors? How can God justifiably send us off to eternal torture when we individually have not (purposefully) sinned against him? Certainly, we all sin unintentionally, but we confess these sins and try to stop ourselves from sinning unintentionally by seeking enlightenment and knowledge (which will ultimately lead us to morality so that we may not sin against God, even unintentionally). Since God is all-knowing, he must understand this. So I guess my question is, why are we punished for things we didn't do?

    (2) Why should I want to go to heaven? I believe in taking responsibility for my actions; that is the just, noble, and right thing to do. If I am born into inherited sin, then I must take responsibility for that sin, and I must accept my fate and banishment into hell.

Even if Jesus willingly was a scapegoat for us (noble is He, then), how should we be let into heaven for being so cowardly that we would use him as that scapegoat and let him die for our sins? How, then, should our cowardly, imperfect selves be let into the grand Kingdom, and risk its corruption?

My apologies for all the questioning; please have patience with me.

    Oops !!!

Don't be too impressed ... it seems that Frodo is not being himself, i.e., he's taking the research of someone else and making it appear as if it's his own ...

Posts 300 and 301 are really copies of http://biblia.com/jesusbible/prophecies.htm ... I think the word, since no credit was given for where the text was copied from is ... uhm ... plagiarism ???

Plagarism is only a bad thing to people who value original thought. To people who let others do their thinking for them, accusing them of plagarism means nothing. It only separates you out as an original thinker - and therefore, most likely damned (despite what's Written, it seems that even those who give the disposition of their souls over to their spiritual leaders still feel qualified to judge the souls of anyone who disagrees with them).

It's sad, but true. Disagree with a fundamentalist over what the meaning of the scripture is (it doesn't matter how ambiguous the language is, only that your interperetation is different from theirs),and they will judge you and find that you're bound for hell. There is no gray are in their interperetation - they've been told what to believe, and that's that.
