I'm really interested to try a psychedelic trip, perhaps a higher-dose one, under the tutelage of a more experienced guide, whether in a therapeutic or ceremonial setting. I live in a large city; I'm just certain somebody around here must offer such a service. How can one go about trying to find someone who does this?

Observing plants, sounds about as interesting as watching grass grow. :p

OP be your own shaman. You don't need someone else to validate the experience for you. You know best what it all means.

The only guided experience I am aware of are either a true South American shaman with ayahuasca or in a psychological setting. I don't consider the clinical setting to be the same at all. They approach it in wrong way and gate keep.

If you are nervous about the trip have a good friend around who is sober. Unless you have some sort of terminal disease no psychologist will allow you to use a psyedelic. They reserve it for people dead in 2 months and even then it's legally very tricky to do. If you bring it up to one you are now a "drug seeker" to them and have the same addiction as heroin.

i don't doubt that someone in a big city would offer such a service, but such a service is probably still illegal and therefore it would be hard to find such a person. the trusted friend route is most likely the way to go; actually i think a trusted friend would be way better in such a scenario than some stranger that you paid to be there.

if you don't have a trusted friend who would be willing to hang out with you during your trip, then how do you even have access to psychedelics?

I don't appreciate the advice to be my own guide or to be guided by nature. I have had that experience many different times already. I have had the experience of tripping by myself, with a friend, indoors, outdoors, in the most spectacular wilderness... I'm not a newbie to the experience. My point in asking was that I felt the guidance of a specialist could potentiate new or more productive possibilities in the experience. That's my reason for asking. I understand the wording of my initial post may have been confusing about my previous experience.

Similarly, the advice not to bring it up to a psychologist is not helpful--I obviously was not planning to just bring it up to my neighborhood family therapist. I'm interested in seeking out a person who specifically guides trips.

Ever heard of chemical wholesalers? Research chemicals? Get with the times!

If you depend on someone else to teach you then you can never truly learn with pscydelics. You need a level of personal dedication and lack of fear you don't seem to have. The experience is happening in your mind and body not theirs. You must embrace this and trust yourself.

You can lead a horse to water but you can not make it drink. You sound like you want someone to pour water down your throat. Sorry you take offense to my suggestion. Just thoughts from someone who has taken a lot of psychedelics.

The evidence of hundreds of effective therapeutic psychedelic journeys speaks against this claim. Read Michael Pollan's book "How to Change Your Mind."
