how to be childish: post in the hipforums politics section. how to be childless: post in the hipforums love and sex section.
There are certain aspects of childhood that are beneficial (at least to me) to maintain, and others that are poisonous. One thing from youth that I try and cling to: A child-like sense of wonder and curiosity. There are so many amazing things in the world, if one is not completely bogged down by the cynicism of the "adult" perspective.
I agree with having a child-like sense of wonder and curiosity. Along with a playful attitude. Though that's very different from being childish.
there are harmless ways and not so harmless ways. refusing to leave behind your imagination is the harmless one. running an nation like a mafia don is a not harmless one.
Childish Fathers “My heart leaps up,” “When I behold A rainbow in the sky:” “So was it when my life began;“ “So is it now I am a man;“ “So be it when I shall grow old,” “Or Let Me Die!” “The Child is father of the Man;” “And I still yet wish all of my days,” “Be Bound each to each by natural piety.” “For, when I was a child, I spake as a child,“ “I comprehended as a child I thought as a child:” “But when I became a man I put away childish things.” “Yet, forever, Wonder remains the beginning of all wisdom,” “Hope still burns eternal, in the light at the end of each tunnel,” “And blessed are the most vulnerable hearts amongst all creation,” “For the gentlest hearts are the strongest, bending without breaking,” “Laboring away in the darkness, somehow knowing without knowing,” “They have to give in order to receive, and that can require a leap of faith.” “Knowing without knowing, each must contribute what they can to receive.” William Wordsworth, the Bible, Socrates, Albert Camus
I remember when I was at emotional-growth boarding school there was a certain workshop that focused in part on the difference between being "childish" and "childlike". It was actually a very good workshop about being in touch with your inner child and not betraying your heart of hearts.
