I know everyone knows and all, but maybe I could still maintain at least an illusion of separation between my real name and my pseudonym – just for creative purposes, you know? I mean it’s out there because my dean already received a letter to this effect (thanks to the OOO crowd – I suspect Levi’s influence) and all – so now I really have nothing to lose, but still. Maybe for the sake of consistency I can stay Mikhail Emelianov for now (just for the haters)… how to tie a tie how to tie a tie http://howtofreak.com/13/how-to-tie-a-tie You can learn easily and simply that how to tie a tie at Howtofreak.com. ==============
The 'revolution' will come. This generation just need to put down the technology, turn off the electrics and join together as one and fight, peacefully, for whats right. Everytime we try and stand up it ends in violent riots. 'The youth of today' and all that, its what they expect. We should surprise them :daisy: Technology divides us, yes. BUT it is also slowly bringing us together, get enough people to join you and you could be the start of a better future! I'm with you sister!
WEED POEM... Stoners live and stoners die but in the end we all get HIGH ! so in life if you don`t sucseed fuck it all and somke some weed!!! I`m sayin this to proof a point that lifes a bitch without a joint !! weed is a plant that grows in the ground if God didn`t like it,it wouldnt be found.... so tell those who don`t get high TO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GIVE IT A TRY !!!
A great song by Elvis Costello that greatly influenced my hippyness, "What's so funny about Peace, Love, and Understanding".
I don't know. I always, well almost always wear tie dye and my water buffalo sandals and have had a lot of people come up to me and tell me how cool my tee shirt is...Being an oldie (65) with mostly long grey hair, I take it as a compliment. I think people today are just plain confused and need some guidance...so any time I can promote peace and love and happiness I do.
Peace, as soon as the nov. election is over and a state makes pot leg. im moving there and will set up a hippie tee pee village. i think after so many yrs. of opresstion we will be free to express who we realy are and i think there will be a lot of hippies coming out of the woodwork. peace
That's a question I ask at least several times a day. being a hippie now days is hard as hell because you have so much going against you. The best way to start off is simply spread and show love, peace and tolerance. Show you love for mother nature and your country. Show you care for its 99%, but not the government that controls it. Stay positive and focus on the good vibes. Love what you have and never worry for what you dont. And never for get what you stand for.
Consider what the social climate was way back when hippy culture sprang up. Before then there was no "alternative lifestyle" other than the jazz/beat movement. Everyone was "straight" People dressed the same at age 20 as they did at 50. So with the 60's a whole new era of ways to dress, music to listen to, drugs to take and lifestyle to live was ushered in. And it was alternative. You could stick it to da man! You could be fairly self contained and live off grid pretty much. Well, The Man still ran the big record labels and pressing plants so we could get our LPs - but he's okay, that Man. Back then it took years for a Youth Culture to become assimilated into the mainstream and sold back to them. Now it takes days. An obscure Swedish band releases a catchy dreamy undefinable song and within a week its the soundtrack for a Vodafone commercial. I maintain that its not really possible to be "alternative" anymore - to a certain extent you can choose to what degree you immerse yourself in the Vortex Of Horror which is our consumer/capitalist "system" but unless you become a monk living in a monastery you cannot really escape it. And I bet even the monastery has communications equipment - which is made by The Man. And in this case, the Chinese Man! So what to do? Be nice, dont be a greedy asshole - that'll do really. Brizzy sums it up neatly above. Peace.
Thanks man. And you have a point, living an alternative life style now days is so hard. People want to fit in and being "cool", people follow so many trends whether its in fashion, in technology or on the internet. Society has done a great job of taking away individuality, self expression and creativity from people. The man makes us feel like we all have to be the same they dont have to worry about radicals coming in a being different. But they do worry because hippies will never disappear as long as there are wars, people destroying our earth, greedy corporations and power hungry governments. In a way we are different, and in some ways some of us are alternative. We still have the nomadic hippies, the minimalist, the war protesters, the ones who seek physical and spiritual enlightenment and the open minded free thinkers. We may not be exactly the same as it was 50 years ago because things are different, there are new risks and new protests. Really its not that we are different, its that the world is different.
Hey Lindsay I left you a rep for this and also added it to my sig - giving you credit and linking to your profile. I have no way to PM you. Please reply to this if you want it removed after looking at my sig. Thanks! (And if you want it removed, I will remove it as soon as I read your reply and sorry to do it without your permission!!!)
So why do we need hippies in the 21st Century? Wasn't it something our grandparents, our aunts and uncles were involved in long ago? Was it born from social problems that were going on 50 years ago? The fact that Hipforums exists is evidence that Hippie living is still touching people in a very deep way. Sure, without creating any labels for who you are, you could join the Sierra Club, live closer to nature, reject the endless pursuit of things, find a way through arts, crafts, homestead skills, or creative writing to express yourself, volunteer in community service, etc. But all these activities have a common thread. Your choice to live such a different life is not by accident. This thing has a name and you belong to it. You were drawn to it from an early age, or some of you were on the road in a life that didn't work and you saw a great light. You could go it alone, but I think there is a need for people of like mind to get together and use the power of numbers to accomplish great things, to provide encouragement when you find yourself mocked or ignored. Particularly these words are directed toward those of you feeling very much alone in little cookie-cutter towns, facing pressure to conform from your relatives, the endless propaganda from the television... It is a form of death to be only what other people expect you to be and none of what you really are. I know you are not looking for a fight from morning to night about everything. But are you willing to see all your dreams die? Don't feel bad that you are having trouble being yourself with so many people expecting you to conform, to not "rock the boat". In the 1960's hippies did not go it alone. They came from the same controlling narrow environments that a lot of you came from. At first San Francisco was the place they went to draw strength and inspiration. Then, most of them dispersed throughout the US and many places around the world. Hippies are in India, Thailand, Russia, South America, Australia, many cities in Europe and quite a few farms in the US heartland and the backwoods of Appalachia and the Ozarks. From your suburban world, it can look like everyone has sold out and there are no hippies. But the moment you decide that you are a hippie and want to be with other hippies, you will find us. This forum is a great place to start the journey. If you wanted to see the world, you might go to the library and get a travel book, but you wouldn't stay in the library. You would use the information in the book to start your journey. Why not treat Hip Forums the same way? Check out Rainbow Family gatherings, go to Bonaroo some summer, find out where hippies gather. You will find them involved in creating things of beauty, helping the disadvantaged, hiking on mountain trails, preserving nature, growing food for the hungry, involved in progressive causes, learning folk crafts, making music, some of us are nudists or just love skinny dipping at nude beaches, some of us are working on green energy projects. Take your talents and interests and be a part of all this! We are waiting for you.
Sorry I had to shorten what you wrote, it was quite long. Your a pretty wise person. What you were saying is actually the reason I joined on here. I live in Colorado Springs and I have yet to meet any hippies, and the ones I do are nomadic and get chased off by the local Police. Since I have openly expressed my beliefs and that I am a hippie I have longed to find others or at least like minded people. This place is amazing for getting connected with others.
